Time for round 2. Standard screen & local cineworld this time. But i now can go & fully enjoy Tiny & Shiny now i know its bloody good. So lets go see The Mandalorian & Grogu once more to make sure it doesnt “flop” like people are saying it is. Not every film need to make a billion.
Screen 6 was half full for the 8:40 thursday showing. A couple of families with older teens, a few odd ones like me but also a good mix of ages of adults. Also someone asked me where i got my bag.
Trailers, Masters of the Universe (maybe), Scary movie (maybe), Super Girl (yes) Spiderman (yes) & Toy Story 5 (i already have this booked in hope of it being an adult only showing).
& then the film started… you can read my full imax review here, but its still got it.
Theres a certain BOINK! moment in the film which i had several people ask me to count… if you are one of those people the answer is 4 times. I know. Ouch. I did some more counting as well not just for that. I checked my watch just before & just after the unmasking & putting it back on. Pedros face is on screen for 7 minutes in total. Also Grogus mini adventure is almost 16 minutes wrong.
Grogus mini adventure without spoiling it really does show amazing character growth & how much he has learnt by just surviving & from both Din & Luke over the years. Its wonderful to see how far our little tiny guy has come over the years. I mean even down to the food. He feels guilty for stealing the fish. After years of just eating everything, its shown how far hes come & how grateful he is.
Theres a robot scene at one point. I had no idea until the day before my second viewing that they were stop motion. How cool is that, that star wars put that into their film in 2026. As a Wallace & Gromit girl it warms my heart.
When there is the fight which is very much pedro in gladiator II down to the bloody yielding even though they are winning, the release a load of creatures in the arena… they are all from the game Chewie plays in the original movie. They are real. How bloody cool is that.
I unfortunatly found a plot hole with the end of the film which upsets me a little bit. When i get this on DVD & we chat then, i will let you all know it. but i was like hang on.
The Bird… i bloody hated that almost as much as the villains.
I know grogu is the main marketing point, but if we could get some shorts with the Anzellans star wars i would not complain. I love those little guys & their ship. Did they just decide to sleep over at Dins? They are sassy & so cool & i love how they do just all talk over each other, especially when you realise they are all voiced by the same person.
I think i cried more this time knowing what was coming. There was a couple behind me as well who cried as well at one point & look, it was adorable & it still hurts even though you still know the outcome. I also welled up a little at the beach scene. Its so perfect & hints at the future goign forward.
Was there a hutt orgy happening at one point?
The score still slaps beyond belief. It just works so well & Shakari is phenomenal. & the way the inro goes with the titles is so clever & then how when grogu appears unless he is in real danger its always a softer or sweeter version of the music that was playing.
Well the guys in my row went well we werent expecting much but that was fun & the two guys who left with me were like oh thats exactly what we wanted (they were a couple so couldnt chat either up). So yea this can live in the same world as andor & if you dont enjoy this then its clearly not made for you. Not all star wars has to be serious, some of it can be fun & tell a sweet little character development story. Thats what this film is.
