The last film before i go on holiday… i know & my holiday spans quite a bit of time so my bad reviews will resume soon i promise. So off to the odeon one more time
Friday night 5pm showings are the best no mad rush from the office to get there. It’s perfect.
I’d say the cinema was a third full which is okay. Screen 1 is huge but that’s still good.
Trailers we had first man which I can’t wait to take dad too. Mile 22 might get round to that it’s going to be a push tho. & then there was venom & I can’t remember what the other trailer was… oh yes I can it was stan & olly filmed in my almost proper home town of Worthing (Noone’s ever going to make a film in lancing) I can’t wait for that looks so good.
& then the film started
I love a heist film, I love a film based on real life, but with this one it actually for the first time ever made me feel worse & sadder & a little bitter & cold leaving the cinema. I always imagined it was a sweeter story & the people were nicer but nah they were all vile.
Which says a lot for the acting. I wanted to punch every single one of these lovely heartwarming national treasures in the face at the end (except Paul whitehouse bless him) but the rest of them pure evil bastards. So epic acting from them all, & what a cast it was too.
If you don’t know the story have a google (also where have you been hiding to not know this) but they all got what they deserved they were all evil & corrupt & back stab era & they all deserved to be locked up.
I like that we saw the police investigation side of it too that was good often with a real life crime story you only see one point of view not two but this was smart in this sense.
I also like the fact that the film just got on with itself. It knew you knew the story so just got going no first act really to set it all up. It went we’re doing a heist film let’s get planning shall we.
I don’t think it’s the films failing that I didn’t love it as much as I should. It probably because it was so recent & we all know the story that it just didn’t get me going. Probably would have worked better as a 3 or 4 part tv series over I dunno Easter weekend wink wink
I still enjoyed it but it lacked the heist drama as we know they get away & then get caught. Shame really.
