I almost didnt go to see this film, everything in the world hs now changed literally in the last week. There is a good chance by the end of the week we will be in lock down & that will be that for cinema club 2020 until May at least. So i went out for dinner & booked my tickets for back to back cinema & went there in hope that no one would kick me out of that my cinema wouldnt close half way through. Turns out they didnt im safe lets do an R rated hunger games.

Screen 4 favorite chair is all mine happy days. Id say there was about 25 people in there all sitting far enough away from each other to self distance. Everyone around my age who like horror & loves the hunger games were in there basically which is always good.

Trailers A Quiet Place (this should be out on Thursday its been delayed indefinitely) Black Widow (not delayed yet) Wonder Woman (not delayed yet) No Time to Die (Delayed) The Girl in the Window (no idea) & some weird Carey Mulligan film. That was it. Its weird watching film trailers not knowing when we are now going to see all of this.

& then the film started… Oh this could of been so much more & gone for it & just given us exactly what we wanted, but nah it muddled itself part of the way through & then just made you go oh really.

Basically the trailers & posters & adverts & premise made you think you were getting the hunger games on a different level entirely. That it was all going to be r rated & full on & just the biggest holy fuck show ever. It chickens out at the stages where you want it to be & it should of just had the balls to do it.

Part of its problem was its narrative & how the film is set out & presented. Why do we not get any flashbacks at all until like 70minutes of a 96minute long film. Thats a weird place to start with them. They would of been better doing these throughout so that when we had our questions they werent necessarily answered straight away but at a relevant time, by the time we got some of our answers, we forgot we had that question. & then there were some questions where we just didnt even really get an answer.

There were some characters that you werent given enough time to care about at all. You wanted to with some of them, but then they were killed off quickly, that you didnt even bond with. You know in the first hunger games film how that little kid hides thinks hes gotten away with it & then when he goes to run he dies, i dont even know that characters name, but i cared more for him in the first film than i did for anyone being hunted in the hunt.

The hunters were not very nice people. Once again looking down on everyone being self righteous & twats & treating normal people like this. SERIOUSLY FILM & CINEMA STOP MAINING US FEEL SO SMALL IN YOUR FILMS STOP LOOKING AT US LIKE WE ARE NOBODY & NOT ELITES!!!!!! ITS MAKING ME MAD! rant over, but its doing my head in.

The only likeable character in the entire film, except the pig, gets blown up. So there was no point to it.

I wasnt sure who i was meant to want to win the hunters or the hunted. I really didnt feel affinity for either side at all. & the people you do journey with i didnt care for at all.

The shop, that was cool. I liked that. That was the best bit of the entire film. It was so clever & even though you knew something was odd you really wanted to see who was going to catch on first.

It was a good idea. I mean the hunger games works so why should this fail. They should’ve just gone all out on it & decided right we are doing this lets make it as r rated & bloody & adult as possible & not have it done & dusted so quickly.

Shame movie you had real potential, but you fucked it up if im honest. I’m going to go watch Katniss now to cheer me up… but i wont because its time for what might be my last cinema trip for a while….
