spoilers its been out nearly a year so… well it feels like it due to letterboxd peoples.

Im off ill from work. Migraines & hay fever / flu (not covid dont worry ive dont my tests) so ive slept & drank water & eaten toast & i just want something fun to watch. This is on my awards season list so let see what this is about shall we.

ahhh so this is where BEHOLD CINEMA comes from! I get it not, i really do. Ive not used that Meme at all until i could see the context of it within the film, but now i do, i can use it so i am sorry for probably over sharing it going forward. I mean saying BEHOLD, CINEMA! is the perfect thing to sum up this film (other than the fact its a netflix film).

So my parents have recently moved home, & in the family home we had one year someone (maybe it was one of us no idea who tho) gave us a sign that said just remember as far as everyone else in concerned we area normal family. It was something while we were teenagers & people looking from the outside in would always say, despite us being all weird & quirky & odd but it the best way possible that it just worked & we just all got each other. I am not sure if that is going up in the new house, but if its not & theyve still got it I will steal it off them. The Mitchells are one of the best examples of a modern family where despite there differences it just works. It has its ups & down obviously, but i recognised all those relationships in my family. Maybe thats why i had a cry, not the fact i was unwell & tired.

A dad & an eldest daughter always get me, it really does. Thats what i have & i saw some bits of my dad in him in the film & that got to me. My dad due to circumstances when he was little didnt actually get to live his dream life (which is kinda good as if he had hed have never met my mum & me & my sister wouldnt be here), he always does his best & trys to solve everything even if hes not up to the job, he still has a bloody good go. He silent & just gets on with life & hes super proud of his kids, even if he doesnt show it. yeah i dont tell me dad enough that i love him & that i think hes amazing but i will do more often going forward (which i did by the way when i saw him two days after watching the film).

Olivia Coleman voicing the bad AI was brilliant. Her voice was epic & she really did it justice. I know its an animation so you see no ones face, but she wasnt even a person or had an actual presents, but yea as an evil phone heheheh brilliant. & the fat a glass of water ruins her, after all the shit she does.

Americans is “driving stick” really as hard as you make it out in tv shows, films & now animated films, to you all? as someone who drives a manual & has gears & has never driven anything else, is it that hard really. If so hahahah to you all.

They got the staging right for that tech event they really really did. I was sitting there watching it & watching the people on the stage & the audience & the people watching it on their phones & was just like yep thats what we all do. & how we are all are on social media even from a young age, yea that was scary. See that in a real film is scary enough but for an animation it really did hit home.

There were some epic set pieces too. The shop invasion, the car chase, the appliance take over were all amazing. I loved them. I was less fond of the last one where it was the grand finale. Just felt like we had to go through a few nearlys before we got to the end & the phones destruction to save humanity. But the car chase was the best. I mean i get that it built them as even more of a team for that final show (shout out to Philips screw drives as gifts{so tempting to do that}) .

The two broken robots where brilliant, as addition to the family who then actually were like you know what were sticking with this lot, they were amazing. But the star of the show is that fucking ugly dog. Im not even sure what breed it was, but oh wow that dog was stunning. I was very concerned for him at some points i really was.

Documenting the who trip even before shit goes down for film school was bloody cool, it just shows how random familys are in normal situations & out of this world situations.

That car defied the laws of physics but i dont care.

The visual of all those boxes making those big Vs to be sent into space was amazing. I mean scary if that is AI’s plans (my laptop & auto text & siri please dont do that to me), but it was stunning. I like how every character wasnt generic either. Yes there were obvious traits & styles & stereo types for some people but some of the others were amazing. Everyone i saw in a box was individual. Thats a lot of effort, sometimes disney dont go to those efforts when you see the films, but nah there was a lot going on here with the animation & i applaud that.

So ive waited until after the Oscars to write this review, but turns out its much more important for me to write this review now. At the oscars when the short animation winner was announced they stood there & went animation is for all not just kids (at the preshow) & then at the actual awards they talked about kids entertainment when it came to this category & just dissed it all. Im sorry but Flee isnt for kids & neither is this & im livid this didnt win best animation. Encanto is good but this is so much better & i think had more heart & soul to it than Encanto. & yes i cried at both, but i was more connected to this & enjoyed this story more. So yeah im livid.

If you havent yet seen this im sorry for spoiling it, but if you have im hoping your in my camp & are livid this didnt get an oscar at the weekend. It brilliant & made me laugh cry & smile & im looking forward to watching it again when im not unwell & an emotional wreck.

BEHOLD, THIS IS CINEMA!
