12 months have passed oh wow oh wow oh wow oh wow. By good that was a lot of films. & breath girl, breath.
I should probably start off with a disclaimer. i started planning my awards in September this year, with only one award handed out & have started typing it on here in October, as i know that it will take me until December to put this together, in theory you will be reading this after Christmas 2017 (well at least after i’ve seen Star Wars i hope {FYI i have seen star wars}).
2017 the year Cinema Club came into its own, the film locations i visited all over the world, the film festival i attended (ish i stood outside it for 10 minutes when i stumbled upon it but that’s not the point), the different cinemas & screens i’ve viewed films on. Its been mad it really has, would i change it for anything 2017 nope not one second even my car accident i wouldnt change that either.
So lets get on with this people & award some Golden Corns for PopCorn For One Reviews. As it stands we are handing out 31 awards, so lets get glad handing so you can see what you should go & see.
Freebies & Gifts Award
Stark Trek Beyond Poster
Cheers random guy working at the Odeon for realizing as limitless my exclusive offers aren’t that good really, so I got a free Star Trek poster get in Hehe.
Did i get 2017 right lets look at the evidence
Meh I guess so
I saw a lot of films & 2 of my 3 must see films of the year ended up in my top 10 so I got that right. Some really lives up to the hype others bombed & some were just fabulous. So yea I guess I got it right.
Animal Performance in Film Award (in honour of the Swan from Hotfuzz)
Dont care that hes computer generated Paddington Bear
Small bear big dream I don’t care that he’s computer generated he was the best animal performance of the year. Well he’s more real than a Porg right ?!
Worst TV or DVD film of the Year
Storks (not the films fault my surroundings fault)
Yea watched this on the way to America as we were landing so probably missed some of the arch’s & stories surrounding it. But yea the Song was the only thing that saved it.
The Leonardo DiCaprio Award for Perseverance & Hard work
Dan Stevens
Quick shout out to Idris Elba who nearly won this but he’s over worked if you ask me. Nah I saw 3 films with Dan in this year All were solid All he gave a good performance & in One he even wore normal clothes I know what that he’s not in period costume.
Best Film Genre
Heist & Steeling stich up films…
It’s well known I love a heist film or a film to try & steel something or prove your worth. They did very well this year, I enjoyed them all.
Animated or Childs Film of the Year
Paddington 2 (or the lego batman movie)
I’ve already professed my love for Paddington 2 earlier it was the best family film of the year. It had everything & to the people who haven’t seen it yet that’s your loss. Go sort it out.
For proper animated film, it’s got to be lego batman. What a start to the super hero year it was, it properly took the piss out of cinema but was honest & true. Properly good fun.
Miss sold film that wasnt what they told me
Atomic Blonde
Don’t sell me one film in the trailer & then give me something else. Nah nah it wasn’t well acted even Macavoy couldn’t save it. It was wrong & it should be avoided at all costs.
Worst Cinema film of the Year
The Florida Project
For a very Long time Assassins Creed (for the last 10mins of the film rest of it was good) & Atomic Blonde (see above) were going to win this. Then I went to see Odeon’s screen unseen & this was on & it was crap. It really was don’t let the globe & sag nominations fall you it’s a really bad film & id like to find a real cinema Fan who actually enjoyed it. Nothing happened it was full & the morals weren’t overly strong either.
The Film i didnt get around to seeing at the cinema award
Blade Runner 2049
I still haven’t seen the original sorry to say & it was out while I was away & 3hours in a cinema for something I’m not that convinced about is a longs time. So when it’s on dvd I will see it(after I’ve seen the original of course).
The film i need to see in 2018
Holmes & Watson
Yes there’s Avengers next year & Lara & oceans but I want to see Will Ferral & John C Riley be Sherlock & Watson. It sounds hilarious & im sold on that premise. Take my money now.
Best Film location i visited
415 east 71st street
It maybe 10 years later but we found it & I stood there & screamed holy shit I’m here. It was brilliant for 10mins I was in the bourne ultimatum. I did do a lot more in New York & Brighton this year including watching the Cumberbatch act but no 41571 is the one.
Quote of the year
I’m Mary Fricken Popins Yall
By a country mile best line of the year when he said it I made a mental note then as I left the cinema I typed it in my notes on my phone & set a reminder for December that this is the best quote of the year.
Best Song/Soundtrack
Baby Driver
There were lots of good songs & soundtracks this year but this was properly cool. A film properly based on the music going on around you at no point in the film is it quiet. It’s brilliant.
Cried when i should have
Logan
I will never know what happens in the last 5 maybe 10 minutes of this film I’m too busy crying. The whole cinema was. Thank you Hugh for bringing him to life & giving us a fitting farewell.
Cried when i wasnt supposed too
Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 2
I love you Yondu. He may have been Your farther but he was never your Daddy is one of the saddest lines of the year. His funeral was perfect too. It’s just so beautiful.
Person i wanted to punch in the face… for being so convincing as a bad guy, but love them anyhow
Eddie Izzard for Victoria & Abdul
Oh I love Eddie saw him twice in town this year he said hi both times too. But when he was in this I really wanted to rip his eyeballs out he was so horrible. So know that the guy is a complete gent, I suddenly wanted to hate him. & that’s why he’s still a brilliant actor.
Best Actress
Jessica Chastain
Her performance in Moss Sloane was brilliant. I really wanted to know what was going to happen to her & see what was going to be the outcome. I believed her & she rocked & beat everyone else for their performances in the One film. You go girl go challenge Margo for the Oscar this year.
Best Actor
Michael Keaton
I’ve seen 3 films with Michael Keaton in this year & every single one he stole the Show. The man has come of age be it a little late but he really has. All of his performances deserve some recognition & I’m more than happy to award him with this.
Didnt live up to the Hype Award
King Arthur Legend of the Sword
It was too many things in 1 a origin film, a Richie film, a gritty film, an action film, a visual film & a weird fantasy film. Thank god for David Beckhams bad acting & Jude Law brilliant acting to save it slightly. Who am I kidding it didn’t.
Bettered the hype or the critics
Baywatch
Don’t care what everyone else says I loved it I saw it twice & I can’t wait to watch it on dvd in the next week or so. It was retro it was stylish it was funny & it had the rock what more could you want.
Surprise film that you should all go & see
Happy Death Day
Horror isnt my thing but this was brilliant. Lots of twists it made you thing & wasnt just horror for the sake of it really really good.
2017 Trailer
Dunkirk & Daddy’s Home 2
Did you see the Daddy’s Home 2 Trailer which has everyone in it except John Cena as you couldn’t see him… find it it’s brilliant.
On a more serious note that Long Dunkirk Trailer was just epic I still get goosebumps watching it now knowing how it all plays out. It deserves an Oscar for that.
2018 Trailer
The Avengers Infinity Wars
Oh man it’s all going to come to ahead isn’t it ekk god it looks good even mama is up for seeing this. Shits going to go down in the mcu 10 years after it all started.
The film that hasnt won any award but deserves fucking award for being amazing
Logan Lucky
I haven’t given an award to this film why the Fuck haven’t I. The closest film that I almost hit the golden buzzer for except for the one I did…we will get to that. But no Logan Lucky has some fantastic performances brilliant twist excellent story telling & a proper heist. Absolute cracker of a film hence it’s this years runner up.
Live Time Achievement
Roger Moore
God bless you Bond what an absolute legend. He was a gent & just fantastic in his work. He will seriously be missed. Even his performance in Spice World was class, the man will live on forever & ever & will inspire us for generations to come.
Here we go the Big 5 awards to be handed out are as follows
I Stole the Show
Huge Grant
His performance in Paddington is brilliant playing a washed up has bin who wants one last shot at fame. Hugh Bonneyville came close too to steeling the show but Hugh wins it. His best performance since the first Bridget Jones film.
Unsung hero/super hero Award
Anne Hathaway in Colossol
Originally the villain & then the hero then the anti hero & then the monster hero. Not only does she overcome addiction & bully’s & depression, but she saves South Korea & gets Dan Stevens to fall back in love with her. That’s what proper hero’s do.
DVD film of the year
Sully Miracle on the Hudson
In hindsight probably should have won last years best film of the year award (but golden buzzer rules can’t be broken) it’s so brilliant & Hanks is just fantastic.
Cinema Film of the year
Dunkirk
I hate you so much Christopher Nolan sometimes i really do. I saw this film twice at the cinema as I had to really Just to feel that experience again. It was garroting scary & beautiful all at the same time therefore it is the best cinema film of the year.
& last but defiantly not least the covered POPCORN FOR ONE REVIEWS FILM OF THE YEAR AWARD 2018
Free Fire
I just loved this film it was crazy & stupid & complete gibberish but it did exactly what i said on the tin. Its a 1970’s irish american arms deal gone wrong shoot em up where no one trusts anyone. It became my golden buzzer for the year when i found out it was filmed literally 5minutes away from where i lived as it was already a contender for film of the year. Its funny its action packed its bloody, theres even a little bit of flirting & romance in it its just perfect. & i watched it just on a hunch that it might be okay. Rightly the best film of 2017.
So that is that the 2017 year is done & dusted which is a shame There was a cinema club page ive created for all the 2017 films which the link but as ive now moved blogs its gone my bad. Thank you All for reading this blog over the year & I will see you all in 2018 with a lot more reviews & awards to hang out. Cheers people’s.
