A classic film, one which has probably helped to shape the world which we live in today, with reality TV being one of the major parts of our viewing. It’s something that is so beautiful & poinient, that no matter how many times I watch it I sit on the edge of my seat, desperately hopeing he discovers the truth.

Here’s a brief synopsis of the plot. Truman Burbank was born as an unwanted pregnancy & was adopted by a corporation to the the star of there 24 hour 365 days a year tv show, with no adverts. Everyone else in the show including his parents best friend wife & people he works with are all paid actors, yet he doesn’t have a clue until something in his world happens which makes him feel like the world revolves around him.

Jim Carrey plays Truman beautifully, niaeve honest kind & careing. He lives a normal life, with a loving wife, in a dead end job, which he tolerates & where the same thinks happen everyday. He has a best friend who takes him out for beer & golf & does normal things. Just like the rest of us he always wonders if he could be something more & travel to see the world.

This has been put off however due to his tragic father at sea when he was a little boy, he can’t drive over water or take the boat, but he always likes to go to the beach to reflect on his life. His dead father however makes a reappearance after 20odd years on the show but as Truman sees him he’s escorted away by 2 extras who push him on to a bus. This then causes Truman to think about his past & things that have happened before similar to this. Thus he starts to question if his world is real.

You then get Cristoff who runs the tv show who decides to try to write his dad back into the show the more suspicious that Truman gets. This happens after there is a lift that leads to nowhere, the radio follows him around, the traffic appears & then disappears in a second & a police man at a power plant calls him Truman despite not telling him his name.

The reunion between Truman & his father is beautifully done, you get to watch how the crew put the show together & how they are only doing the show now for ratings not for much else. The way that his best friend Marlon is scripted word for word to make Truman believe there is no conspiracy & that his dad is still alive. You also see the audience of the show watching in there different countrys & how they react to the reunion. An audience that despite watching him everyday want him to escape & be free to live a real life.

Then just as thing return to normal, Truman manages to escape & loses the tv, as he has now worked out that this is all about him. They cut the transmit-ion until they find him trying to get to Fiji to find the girl he went to college with. The tv producers decide to drown him despite the production teams objections. This begs to the question would we all watch this if it were real, when would we stop watching the entertainment if someone was going to die? Eventually they spare him & he reaches the end of the studio & leaves the studio for the real world after Cristoffs pleas to stay.

Cristoff does have a point, when he says there are as many lies in the world as there as in the one he built for him. He also says that while it’s not Shakespeare it is perfection. Proff that some times the best story’s are real & that maybe we should all just look at our selves from time to time to get the best story. The most poignant thing he says is that we accept the world in which we live in unless we are told otherwise. Who h begs the question, does anyone else when they watch this film suddenly think that they are in their own Truman Show & that everyone around them is a plant & that your world may not be real? Or is that just me because of it is, if got to get to Fiji to get out.

The reason Truman is off to Fiji is to find the girl he once kissed on the beach when at college, who was the first person. To tell him almost a decade earlier that his world was not real & then was taken away by the crew before he could find out the truth. If a guy would like to fly sail or bus ride to get to me from the other side of the world I’d be so happy & would never let him go. She however is back in the real world fighting to release Truman from him tv horror saying its against human rights for the child to be adopted by a company.

In our house whenever your lost or need to find something we do say … This is us & all the way around here FIJI! It’s kinda something that just stuck here. Also often when someone leaves the house they yell out, in case I don’t see ya good afternoon good evening & good night.

This is one of my favourite films ever, and I think it may even be my sister’s favourite ever. It’s the true meaning of humanity & it makes you question quiet alot if the world we now live in should be 24 viewing like so much now is. Maybe we should take a step back & look at everything on a wider scale.
