Let the Skyfall… When we stand tall… Apple Crumble… I hate frickin Adele I can’t stand her singing voice. Whenever she talks she’s amazing & hysterical but she starts singing she can do one… & the fact she sings the song for Skyfall is the worst thing about the whole film. (and she won an Oscar for it)
After Quantum we were all very nervous for Skyfall, especially with Sony threatening to pull out, no director & mgm going bust twice. Something had to be sorted for Bonds 50 birthday we Brits just wouldn’t accept a no. So we ended up with Skyfall as a birthday present. Oh what a present.
It actually was my birthday present we went to see it on my actual birthday, the day I also got a full time job. Not bad really.
Anyhow best get on with a review really that’s why your hear isn’t it, to read about bond 23, this is your last real spoiler opportunity to get out of this… Ok… Good let’s type
Craig gives his best performance of Bond ever. Just outstanding against the world, with the support of people he doesn’t trust while being charming & sleezy. Yep that’s my kinda Bond. It’s almost Dalton level… Almost.
Judy Dench as M is also stunning she becomes the main bond girl of the movie…we will get to that later. She stars & almost out shines Craig.
Javier Bardem is a brilliant villain he’s not Scaramanga or Renard but he’s a pretty good joint third with Carver. His monologue about the rats I can now almost do word for word it’s so perfect. Just astounding
We also get some new faces, Ben’s Q, Naomis Moneypenny(which was amazing that that was the last thing to be revealed) Ralph’s Mallory(we will get to that too) & Rorys Tanned, although I will always see him as the priminster from black mirror (oink) some of you will get that.
Blowing up MI6 through Ms computer was such an interesting thing to do, making her look like she’s the bady, but he gets his way & everyone’s attention. Forcing Bond to come back from the dead.
Q is scared of flying yes of course he is. He also can do the most amazing things on his laptop with a scrabble mug but can’t work out a code to hack the computer, without letting him be hacked. Bond also trusts Q straight away who for someone who trusts no one is really weird. Did anyone else think that.
In the gallery the painting behind Bond & Q my friend has a replica on her wall. I Shit you not she does. When I go round there now I make a point of sitting in front of it. Now where’s my exploding pen…
That enquiry meeting did drag on a bit didn’t it. However when you watch them on the news they are as bad as the one in the film, at least the one in the film has an action sequence with it. Here the most excited wev got was when someone custard pied the Murdoch’s. I did think he was going to kill M in that scene I really did I thought oh God this is it as she was ready for it.
The chase to the enquiry is amazing getting through the tube after breaking out of prison, jumping on the tube & blowing up Westminster all in a morning work. There is an issue though. If you walk between the cartridges on old london tube trains when it’s moving & it’s not an emergency, you can be fined up to £500 & they are difficult to open. Yea that so wouldn’t happen. At least the train & line he is on is the correct one. Ie it is going where it’s meant to go unlike Thor where it wasn’t 2 stops along… Once again we will get to that another time.
Does anyone else think the island he takes over is the shore of his own subconscious from inception? I just can’t get it out of my head. Everytime I watch it that’s what I think.
Why didn’t he just get the next lift up in Beijing, he could see where he was going he could of worked it out. The fight in the dark & the lights is amazing. I knew he was going to fall off the building.
The throw backs to old bond are topped with the db5. Even when he threatens to eject him. Shame it blows up to piss Bond off.
When you finally find out what skyfall is its like omg. Shits going down. It’s an amazing scene the set up to the fight, & the attack & the explosion. Truely time for some crumble.
I thought the old guy was going to die. So was really sad when it was M that passed on. The number of people that saw the film before I did & didn’t spoil it that she died & Mallory became M. What a twist. Truly the end of an era.
It’s a return to form for Bond back fireing on all cylinders, well done Mr Mendes. Truly a modern classic.
