This was a film i purchased years ago when me & my friends were doing our lets watch random cheap film nights. I thought it was going to be really bad so we put it on as background noise & then while all my friends were chatting & playing drinking games i realised i was watching the film more than speaking to them & then the moment in the film happened & they then all paid attention to. I have seen it once since then, so when asking you all about what physical media i should watch for C & the random number generator gave me this i was very happy to rewatch this.

Im going to stand on my hill & say that this was the best rom com of the 2010s & its not even close. Nothing got near it at all. Its just so funny. Its done in a good modern way & it just all links so cleverly & is so well acted & there is no one you really hate… well except for Kevin Bacon but its not his fault that you hate him & he bloody owns it. Its a genuine joy to watch.

Im with you Emma Stone… FUCK! What a brilliant use of the one F word you could have in a 12 at the time. Because we would all have that reaction to Ryan Gosling taking his shirt off & looking like that. Its such a moment. Everyone agrees to it. Men realise actually they also have unrealistic expectations to match up to not just us ladies. Its a very nice look indeed. & then the fact his special trick is Dirty Dancing… brilliant.

There whole get together is so cute, hes been after her for such a long time & shes all like nope im me im happy with my life & my man & then her life & man lets her down she puts everyone in her place & goes to make herself happy. But then its the whole, they want to have sex but then just dont, proving its not always about being a player & getting the shag that the movie had been selling for the previous 70minutes. It also then shows that people who were always so set in their ways can change for the right person.

I love how the film which is all about love & romance starts off with a declaration of not being in love & asking for a divorce as you are having an affair. Its a proper oooh you thought you were getting this kind of rom com oooh no, they are rewriting the rules for sure. Also it shows that its not just your partner & maybe your kids you lose in a divorce, it could also be your friends especially as they are a couple. Life doesnt tell you that if you go through a break up does it.

The whole teaching Steve Carell how to date in a modern world is so funny, but has some brilliant montage moments for sure. It never feels repetitive even though it is. It doesnt outstay its welcome. It proves that maybe one way doesnt work for everyone & yes he does get lucky (which then isnt lucky) but still. IT goes to show theres all sorts of different ways to get the girl. Although it is so funny when his hook up ends up being his kids school teacher.

When i first watched this i didnt get why we had the kids as a subplot but now after watching it a couple of times i understand why. It, much like love actually, shows that anyone can catch feelings for anyone. Although as teen to take naughty photos is never something that should be encouraged for anyone.

I love that he knows shes going to need help & goes to check up on her. Its so cute. Despite every other grand gesture in this film, this is the one that is the purest form of love. It proves that despite it all, you still hold a flame.

There is the one scene though. The mini golf scene. The entire thing links everyone together so well. Its funny. Its also the audiences reaction to Ryan & Emma walking in being the older kid. Its then the little petty arguments, its then the other family turning up & then Kevin fucking Bacon turning up at the worst time possible. Its chaos & carnage & messy & exactly what real life & love is. The wonderful perfect plan is then failing for everyone. Its all just summed up so well with everyone sitting on the wall being cautioned by the police when it all got a bit too out of hand. If you do not adore this scene, then i feel sorry for you.

This is my one down fall with the film. I think it should have ended with the bar moment with Ryan saying Steve is a good dad, but no we have to have the awkward graduation. I mean i do get it, but we didnt need to crush that kid for 5minutes to then make him happy again. Also who allows their kid to declare all of that on stage. Hes still going to see all those kids next year. Oh the trauma, hes going to need therapy. That scene is the only reason this film isnt perfect.

If you dont watch this film & dont feel your life affirmed at the end of it i feel for you i really do because it does show the good & bad side of love & relationships. & yes they are all beautiful people, but it proves it can be nice or messy. & that lifes not perfect.

Yea this is a future classic for sure. In years to come people will talk about this like Notting Hill & Dirty Dancing. It will last forever.
