No body does it better… Baby your the best.
I mean they nailed these bond songs didnt they. I mean they still do but oh wow. Its epic. Time to see who the spy who loved me really was hehe. Lets do this for the next part of the Bondathon.
As always with this Bondathon, we will talk songs first. Iconic. I sing this a lot when i talk about films. Its also on my review writing playlist, because Carly Simon owns it so so much. Baby you are the best (its still not view to a kill though).
This film is so good at depicting the soviet vs the west in a good way for its time. I can imagine at its time of release this was very controversial to watch & would have raised a few people going hmmmm whats all this about. It was cleverly done as to how stuff was solved & how people worked together & it wasnt just Bond. It really really worked, even today all these years later.
I do believe this is the reason why Pinewood came to exist in its state it is today. They needed a big studio to shoot the final show down with that submarine & it was worth every penny. I love that scene. ITs more than just blowing stuff up. Its strategic & is people working together to prove & point & help each other. Yes it is all about Bond at the end of it & i did have a few moments where i was like hang on is Bond going to get out of this. It was stressful, but so good & so well done.
We meet Jaws in this film, yay at last hes finally here, bless him. I love a bit of Jaws. So huge & those teeth. Incredible. Its sad they dont use him too much more in the res of Bond, considering so many other people turn up in more than just 1 Bond film, its a waste if im honest.
Got to have some snow for Bond, what seems like a waste of time chase off is though actually useful, because then it brings in the bond girl who is trying to get revenge on whoever it was who killed her lover. Turns out its Bond & she should have bloody killed him. She should have done or at least told people she had killed him even is she missed or she assumed Bond was dead. But no James Bond has to have sex with the Bond girl at the end doesnt he. So of course she didnt.
Ahhh the submarine car… iconic, but we still dont have that now world. Boo to you. I mean i get it Q branch own it all the time, but still. How would that even work. It just does in movies, it would be so hard even not to pull off in real life. That is one of my fave chases in Moore set of Bond films for sure, its not Paris i know or the barrel roll but still. Its up there for sure. So many threats trying to get them & they get away.
The hide out Stromberg has is insane, especially for its time. Even now people would look at that in a modern film & be like damn thats stunning. I give Stromberg his due, his plan would have bloody worked & he had been sorting out it out for a bloody long time 9 months is insane. He would have got his revenge & world domination, but nah Bond turns up to scupper him. Also that base would have been safe from a nuclear war… im just going to go see if its available for rent at them moment we might need it.
I know they lost submarines, but to lose two &then just assume a that a third wouldnt be taken is stupid. Also got to love a count down & race against time. Also those bombs going off would have still caused some nuclear fall out somewhere.
Got to love jaws killing a shark thats bloody cool.
Why are Bond superiors always shocked to see him having sex with the girl at the end of the film. Surely they must know he needs a release.
This Bond film also has good scores for some of the chases & fight scenes. So often up to this point had it been quiet to here the over the top punches or gun shots in these scenes but the noise for the fight for the subs is so so good.
Its a very good Bond film from the end of Act 2 onwards. Act 1 is a little flimsy but your so engaged in the final showdowns &the fact Bond could die on the mission or from the girl that you do forget how average the start of it is. It hits it out the park for the end, & thats the bit of the film that stays with you.
