I love it when a film tag line includes the phrase metes/matches/mixed Inception. I love how thats a thing basically it tells people if you like to think & watch a film go & see this as you wont get it first time round. Cue Looper.

Looper is quite clever actually. Basically (im going to go all JGL on you now) time travel hasnt been invented yet but in the future it has, but crime is taking over so inorder to get away with it they send the criminals back in time to be killed, where you receive silver. when you get gold you have killed yourself & you are no longer employed but set for life money wise. But one person gets away from his killer & goes on the run to try & change the future so his life is better, but the old him realises he cant do this so he has to save the now to protect the future. Did you get that people?! make sense of any of it… Right then we can continue.

JGL (Joseph Gordon-Levitt but im calling him JGL from now on) finally becomes a full on leading man & breaks away from being bit quirky or unlucky in love or the side kick & he does it effortlessly. Theres just one problem though, hes made to look like Bruce Willis. Not that theres a problem with that, but his accents is more harsh than it usually is & hes given a slightly receding hair line & changed so when he is Bruce Willis in the future, its less of a dramatic oh really now look. Which is a shame as if you go around to people & go who is that actor, hes really good. Which means they can only tell you if they have seen looper. Shame really stunning performance without his performance Bruce would give a lesser performance, but Bruce stuns as well based on who JGL is playing him. Very very good acting by the two of them.

Emily Blunt is okay, but she is just in this to be a damsel who isnt in distress but is in distress. Shes good at her role, but it could have been anyone in that performance. Maybe she is good but Bruce & JGL make her just look average.

I like the fact that when one of the loopers let his loop escapes, they start to torture the current looper so it hurt the older one so he will go to the right place & be killed. Thats very grim, but also very clever. Its also good that this is how JGL get Willis over to the dinner know that he will get the reference.

I know we had to have a reason for the old looper to want to come back apart from revenge on his dead wife, but did we really have to go around  & kill small children to prevent the future. If you do that Bruce you cant get back to your wife, dont you see that. Its not going to change what happens.  Also then in the future, why does the Rainmaker who is the child keep killing random loopers, why doesnt he just find Willis & do this with him for revenge doesnt make any sense.

Im not sure why we needed to have telekinesis in it that was a little bit too far, yes it does save them at the end of the day ish but surely his mothers love was enough. Surely that the point of the entire film that love concurs all doesnt matter who you are or what you do.

Why didnt he trade his silver bars in? surely everyone else will see them & go ah looper when he tried to trade them & they will kill him on the spot or trade them… nah just me then.

When Bruce takes out every single fucking person to get to Jeff Daniels thats cool.

Over all this is a very clever way of telling a action dis-topian thriller involving time travel. It’s just a bit of a shame because I think it could have been a little bit smarter. Don’t get me wrong I still enjoy this film & think there are good performances but it could have gone one step further. Maybe I have been watching too much Nolan.
