This was my first ever blog in 2015, so bear with my lovlies sorry if its really bad i’ve just copied it across
SPOILERS
May the odds be ever in your favour…
Firstly i would like to say that i read all of the books before seeing the films & i have seen the other 2 films first, before you all start saying why is this reviewed first.
As someone who loves the books, i am glad that they have split the films into 2 parts, you get more of the correct story, but this does equal a couple of issues.
A) you have to wait another whole year to go and see the next part of the book that you love. Someone wouldn’t stop you at chapter 14 of a book and tell you you cant read 15 on-wards for another 9 months. I would rather sit in the cinema or the TV for 5 hours to see it all in one sitting.
B) if you’ve split the last film into 2 why not do that with the previous films as well? we could have then had more information about how Katniss got her badge, and the 50th games ( but i will leave these complaints until we get to these films otherwise its just repeating information)
C) where the film actually stopped (i’ll get onto this a bit more in a sec)
right now to actually review it.
First of all there are no hunger games, which is actually a breath of fresh air, no longer is the audience sitting there going well we know shes going to get out of this some how. There’s now a chance that she may not make it to the end of the film, despite the fact we know theres another films.
The hospital destruction in 8 happens as Katniss completes her, if we burn you burn with us speech too, not before. in the books shes shot down two bombers and then the third sneaks away destroys the hospital. Where as in the film shooting down the bomber destroys it. Meaning is was her that destroyed it not the capital.
One of the things ive never got my head around in the books or film is the lack of Gale. He is clearly the smartest and bravest person in Panem, but the girl he clearly would do anything for strings him along. Hes also the hottest man in Panem too.
Finick, oh poor Finick he spends the whole film moping around, im sure in the book he was more active at this point of the book, until they get to the bunker part.
I also still cant get my head around Donald Sutherland being president snow. It freaks me out a bit. I keep waiting for Jack Bauer to be in charge & kill them all.
Right now the ending. It should stop about another 40mins further into the film at a point where it is life or death for katniss( im not going to say as its a huge spoiler for the next film) but where it stops with Peeta being hijacked, could have been creepier still than it already is. Also based on something that dint happen in the first couple of film we couldn’t have part of the reunion moment, although they may use this to start the next film.
Also when we saw it in the cinema all my friends were in shock that it stopped there and were all completely silent. When i realised this was where it was going to end, i was just angry. None of my friends have read the book so thought it was a good cliff hanger, but when we see the next one in November i will point out to them where it should end, and being like minded hopefully they will agree.
My favourite bit of the whole film is the return to district 12, which is horrific and disturbing as i had in my mind. This film is really meant for teens, but those scenes will make anyone shudder. A three finger solute to those who crafted that, its truly beautiful.
I do love these books and film & maybe that’s why im over critical, as i want it to be perfect. Maybe when i watch the final 2 films back to back in one sitting i will be happier. Then i can judge it fully.
Happy Hunger Games people.
