Time for another advanced screening which yet again to some of the world is like hang on… weve had this for a while, which in theory is a yes. That is because The Life Of Chuck won the Canadian Film Festival the big un’ & now here we are in the uk getting it at the end of august. So to say i have been looking forward to this is saying a lot.
It was half full for screen 3 which was good, clearly a lot of people arent bothered bu this or have pirated it from else where. It was mainly millennials as well a few gen x but not anyone older or younger.
Also this is when it pays to be a unlimited member as we all know to turn up bang on time as every couple of times theres no adverts, today was that day. So the trailers were, the roses, Eddington, Caught stealing, the smashing machine & the walk. All good.
& then the film started… i cried… hard.
I also want to keep some of this vague, i think you all need to watch it & go on the same journey.
I was not expecting to have an existential crisis & confront mortality within the first few minutes of this film not way. But yea there i was for the opening 30 to 40 minutes of this film, visibly shaking & crying thinking about life & everything around you & the abruptness that happens. I mean im now sure know what happens in the rest of the film i wouldnt have as painful a reaction to it now knowing how we got here but still. I cried a lot.
Mark Hamil, he wont but i hope he gets some awards season buzz for this because he for the few minutes he was in the film was magnificent. I thought he had it in him but he really really did have it in him here & he was stunning. It was a pleasure to watch him.
It is weird that Tom is the lead. I mean i get it but considering the story when you actually think about it, it is the life of chuck but its an ensemble piece more, everyone has a lot to say at points & gets a chance to shine. The younger Chucks were really good too bless them all, bright futures for all of them. Also its so clever that half the cast never actually meet, its very clever in story telling by doing that.
That being said, Tom finally dancing in a movie on the big screen. My life was made. In that suit & the glasses & he was just feeling it. What a privilege to watch. God the man has got more than moves. Thank you for finally making this happen.
Id just like to say the not all accountants & finance people are boring, i mean chuck wasnt. But maths is important peoples, but not to the extent the film made it out to be.
Theres a sequence with the night sky that is rather beautiful & stunning & i just sat there wishing i could sit there looking at the night sky as well just being at peace, i guess thats why i go to the beach, maybe i should go one evening…
This film really does show how everything early on in your life helps to shape you in the future & makes you the person you are. The personal growth is wonderful & beautiful & shows how the people we meet on our journey are all here to help & inspire or we do that for them. It a very simple soft message but its wonderful. Also never give up on your dreams peoples.
As well as being beautiful & emotional & slightly traumatising, its funny, especially with the parents evening scene. OF all the things to do at that point, its just a bit random but it sets the tone. The very much if you dont laugh youll cry vibe to it all.
I get why some people are like what was that, but for me it was magical & beautiful & yes it broke me &was safe, but sometimes a film doesnt need to be more than that. Sometimes it just needs to be a film to make you want to go & grab life & this is one of them.
