Your eyes dont deceive you… i saw The Hunger Games in the cinema in 2025. Its Cineworlds 25 year of having a membership so they asked us members what classics we wanted back on the big screen for the month of july. & the first film was this, which is the only hunger games ive never seen in the cinema, so im here for this. Also about 1 month ago i decided to start a rewatch of them all, so ive now seen this film twice in 4 weeks, but i didnt know this was going to happen.
There was a police incident at the marina, so i almost missed my film if im honest, but they eventually let us in which was good. I then also wanted to get the fantastic 4 pop corn, so i walked into the cinema as the f4 trailer was playing & then it went to the film. I did get my popcorn & the cinema was back with millennials & gen z who didnt see this on the big screen first time around, all ready to live our best tribute lives.
& then the film started… well the fact ive rewatched them all this month says a lot for how i feel about them also here is my original review of the film (yea my style has changed a lot).
The room laughed very hard at the line “that is mahogany”. That got the most vocal response in the room. We were all kind of rustling when district 12 did their tribute as to do we & about 4 people put their hands in the air. So when Rue died, we all did it in respect. Well done peoples.
We all went awww when snow turned up, i hope more out of respect for Donald than anything else. Not that people are still crushing on snow from the most recent film or that they have read sunrise. Im guessing it was in honour of the grate man.
The score… oh damn. Yea this is why you need to watch films at the cinema, because there were some moments i had hardly noticed before at home even recently & i was like ooooh thats good. Some of the editing in it is a little jarred when you do see it on that scale. It could have been improved. I also heard someone as we left going Jennifer wasnt very good. She was meant to be a petrified 16 (in the film 18) year old who had a 5% chance if she was lucky of getting out alive. Of course she was all over the place, which also explains why shes more certain of who she is & what she can do in the second film.
The mutts for the finale (so weird to talk in detail about a film for cinema club) oooh they were not nice on the big screen. Im glad they were that menacing.
Woody is always underappreciated in everything. Im glad these films got him back in the public eye a bit & he for his 20mins of screen time owns it. Proper character development in a very short amount of time. I love how he just suddenly clicks that katniss could be the next him & shes got the guts to do it, which is why he stops drinking.
Its also good to see all those other kids & tributes names appear in that list & you are like yep ive seen 4 of their films in the last year. Its always nice to see that the ensemble had moments. Quaid particularly at the moment is on a hot streak. Good on him (yes i know hes nepo but still).
Yea im very glad ive seen that on the big screen. One more to tick of the lister of cinematic modern masterpieces. May the odds be ever in you favour peoples.
