Advanced preview time. I missed the last one of these because of an event & im not going to tomorrow for Opus as its champions league night (yea that went well urgh) so it was time to go & see Restless. A film i know nothing about at all. I’ve never seen a trailer for it.
Cheers for the free mini popcorn cineworld, its been a while since we got something like that. I had already brought my own with me though.
Proper mix of ages for sure always is with an unlimited screening, ive still not made a friends though as we all always turn up at 10mins in so we just get the trailers.
& on that note the trailers i saw were for black bag, Opus & death of a unicorn. That was it. Very nice.
& then the film started… this wasnt for me for a few reasons.
I knew nothing about this film before going into it but i now wish i had know something, as it was about noisy disruptive rude neighbours, which when youve had a hormonal headache for most of the day before heading to the cinema &then to hear music that loud all around you & then moments of silence disturbed by loud crashes, yea it didnt help. I mean it proves that the sound on this film is so so good that it makes you feel like that. But in my condition on that day it wasnt the best thing to hear.
Every character in this film, including the woman whos side we were meant to be on, had so many red flags. I know this film pushes stuff to the extreme but, everyone did stuff where you were just like no dont do that, this character would never. I know things push you to desperation but still, it went a bit to far. So much so that at one point i was like is she jsut dreaming this because shes sleep deprived, but no it was actually happening. The only reliable character was the cat, bless it.
The final twist was like hang on who are these people that are being mentioned they havent been in the film at all. Well actually when they appeared one of them had one fleeting 3 second moment & that was it. Dont go giving us that & not really mention them in the rest of the film.
What kind of sister says they are going to be there for you &then doesnt answer the phone when you need help? Seriously, she spent the first 10mins on the phone being told id drop everything for you only for her to only be slightly useful at the end.
The pacing & time scale of the film was good, it meant it was done & dusted in all of 90 minutes which did mean i could go home & recover, anymore & i wouldnt have been able to have coped with the whole negative vibe for much longer.
There were some absolute cringe moments in this film that i was like nope we dont need that.
You could do a lot worse with birtish culture films, but you could also do a lot better than this. It almost felt like the director & writer were sending a letter in real life to their neighbours & we all just got to watch it play out on the cinema screen.
