Here we go, my number 2 pick for 2023, which almost any other year would have been pick 1, but you know… When Nolan releases a film its always top choice. But yea its time for Mission Impossible 7. Its been years in the making & after Tom saved cinema last year, this is his reward, that we all get to see this. So here we go. Its time to get invested in the IMF once again.
Now i have a few things to say (sorry Cineworld im going to moan about you) first of all your tuesday 5pm showing were all cancelled except from screen x, & screen x films were all not at a good time for me, that was very odd.
So the one i did book for was subtitled, so much so it warned me before i went saying youve booked a subtitled film. It stopped being subtitled 20mins into the film, at random. Now that doesnt effect me, but some people will have booked this showing specifically because it was subtitled. That was not good to stop half way through. Im guessing someone complained, but that was not good. Advertise the movie you are showing cineworld please.
Id say my thursday 5pm showing was half full, lots of people i knew were waiting for the weekend, i get it but thats till impressive. I was the only woman in my screening though which was a little bit sad.
Trailers, the Meg (maybe) Joy Ride (done) Oppenheimer (its so close) Barbie (yes) & Blue Beatle (wtaf was that all about it looked weird)
& then the film started… & this film was a part 1 for sure, but oh boy did it still deliver.
The only reason why this film didnt get 5 out of 5 is because it is part 1. I have so many questions about it which usually the mission impossible films tie up before the end of it. Just think about Fallout, a throw away line about Small Pox at the start was so important for act 3. Im sure there was stuff mentioned in this film, which come part 2 we will sit there & go ahhhhh thats why. I think we will need to watch Part 1 the week of 2 coming out just to make sure nothings been missed & we know what we are after.
Of all the McGuffin hunts i’ve been on (& trust me there has been a lot) this one was insane. Was it McGuffin part 1 or 2, or the fake or who had that & who wanted the McGuffin & what was the villain. I mean it kept me on the edge of my chair throughout & it didnt get boring. & it was interesting to see how the power balance shifted depending on who has control or though they were nearest to the true McGuffin. (If you dont know what a McGuffin in by the way 1} google it 2} i mentioned them a lot why ae you even asking that).
Well car chases in Rome are very in arent they. I have seen that already before this year, in Fast X, almost frame for frame. Same streets same part crashed through. It was a copy, but this felt more real. There was no bomb it was just 2 people trying to get going in act 2 & deal with some random stuff. That little car was so cool I loved it & i was actually concerned at one point that someone might not make it out of that scene.
The Exposition room with all those officials at the start, wow. I became the DiCaprio Meme of omg it them omg they are in this too ahhhh. Its like Tom Cruise picked all the people hes been impressed with in the last 5 years in acting & had them spout the plot & exposition at us. & id think i did miss something mainly because i was to busy going help they are in the movie, how do i function now, thats what it felt like.
Tom Runs. I know thats a given, but Tom Cruise Runs a lot in this film. In fact there are 2 running moments where im sure in about 15 years time when people talk about Tome Cruise running, they will be iconic images & views of it. That being said, because its taken them a while to make this & so much of it was filmed here & we saw bit of them filming it, i was sitting there at one point waiting for some of the more over the top dramatic things to happen. especially with the majority of Act 3.
That being said i liked that one of the main bits of drama in act 3 didnt involve Tom being in act 3 for the start of it. There were much higher stakes going on that him trying to get to act 3 was a drama in itself & it also tested so many peoples loyalty & methods to get something done. It was insane. Act 3s are made well by the mission impossible guys, they always just nail it & make other films in the genre wish they were them.
Much like with Rome being in for chases, we have a lot of night clubs where theres fights are a stand off at the moment, but this one was cool & felt real & more like a club than some others. They also are always in really nice Clubs in film, they are very classy & usually no one is drinking at all.
Vanessa had a lot more to do this time & she did a better job than Hayley. Im not saying Hayley did a bad job, oh no but Vanessa was much more compelling to watch & see what she did. She was so cool & bossed it.
Simon & Vic were used well, but there were points where they did feel a little bit like they were in the film as Originals & not for much else. I mean they did own the airport scene too, that was very very cleverly done, i love a good riddle & guessing game & being the grand finale of it all i was worried maybe some people werent going to make it out at points.
The Train scene is just so stressful at all the different points it really is. I felt like i was pushing further back into my recliner & it was so intense, but that is bloody good film making if you can still do that. Especially with Gravity is an issue.
It flew by. It really did.
Im glad it was not left on a cliff hanger cliff hanger, if you get me. So many recent part 1s have done that (this year 2 come to mind already) but if they didnt make another one, in theory there mission is complete.
I still need answers though. Thats my only stumbling block with this movie. Ask me about it after part 2 & i will let you know what i think then. Because if we are going along the same way with that one, then this might be one of the best dual finales to a franchise ever.
