Time to go see this opening day with its target audience. Ive done the nerdy film viewing with the preview, now its time to sit among the pedro & chris peoples & have a moment for them & hope i was just judging dakota badly.
Opening day for the 7:30 showing is almost sold out which is very very good, everyone from 15 & above if in this screening & it is very much the target audience you would expect for this. Some of them are going to be shocked this isnt a Rom-Com.
Trailers, Nobody (finally) Life of Chuck (fyi im in the same seat as i was on monday), Sorry Baby, The Roses (again) the new Leo movie & I swear.
& then the film started… Can confirm the plot as still glorious (also if you want to ready my original cinema club review click here)
So i can confirm she has no chemistry at all with either of them. I do get one of them however why not the other? Destiny or not? She at no point is in love with either of them at all. Theres a point where she calls one & not the other about something & at that point she should be realising & shes just one tone & like oh. Babes a blind person could notice what was going down there come on. Accidentally you made your choice but when it gets to the moment your still unsure of it.
Pedro Pascal at one point is asked what his best asset is, he says his eyes are pretty decent & then smoulders. Mate we know, & she didnt deserve that long of a smoulder. However that scene bugs me for another reason. Every other table has multiple plates or is empty, theres has one plate of food no cutlery & isnt even touched. Its clearly a show meal, at least make it look real & make it look like they are sharing it.
Anyone ever tried to crash a wedding? nope didnt think so… How was that even allowed for any amount of time? Its just random. Also is the singles table really a thing at a wedding? I guess ive always been on a family or really close friends table so ive not had to go through that. Also why in america do you have so many groomsman & brides maids like theres thousands. Bollocks to that.
Pedro ordered a Tequila. Thats such a Pascal move to keep the cold away, we see you softie.
Sweet Caroline… BU BA BURRRRRRRRRRRRRR! We do it better.
When you know the filming style & what its meant to show you notice so many more gaps between people & her being framed one way to someone else be it light & dark or rich & poor.
I get this is a film called Materialists & i get he message it try to tell. But there is not one normal person in this film at all. Maybe the little girl whos about 6 who Pedro is dancing with at the wedding. But there is no one i could actually relate to at all. Everyone was over privileges or made themself a victim or was an actual victim.
The more i think about this film the more i realise it didnt actually tell the story it promised & lessons werent learnt properly. It wants to be this but the lack of chemistry & the way it ends just doesnt push it over the edge. Good in practice, but just needed more (& a better female lead).
But lets be honest & this was a “plot” watch. Because the plot (both of them) were rather delicious.
