Confession time, I dont get the hype. Lilo & Stich has never been peak disney to me. As a teen i wasnt bothered & as an adult ive not been indoctrinated into it. i see you people who are obsessed with stich each to their own. So i re watched it this week just to remember exactly what happened before going to the cinema. This is also a day off for me so im doing back to back cinema today the strangest double bill ever.
I saw the 2pm showing of this film. & there were about 20 people in my screening. I was the only odd one, it is on a lot each day for the next 2 weeks so you can literally go to a cinema at any point &The film will be starting in the next 30 mins.
Trailers, how to train your dragon, pepper pig experience (im guessing baby pig time) Elio & some weird other film that looked odd with a vampire who wasnt a vampire (im not bothered by that)
& then the film started… it may not be my fave disney story but they do a good job putting it on the big screen again.
Now ive seen a lot of people moan about the changes at the end, i have & i can see why they are but i can also see why they are so valid. It made sense & surely that change once it is over gives the people involved better lives right? just me seeing that. I get what Ohana means, i really really do, but i think it actually improved it a little, it made more of a point.
Please can we put Billy Magnuson in everything please? Each time i see him in a film hes bloody amazing & hes not used enough I sat there while those two aliens were animated going i know that voice, i know him & then the fact they were revealed, i love it. Yea more Billy please.
Big week for Hannah Waddingham & being in charge of big ships. Two in 3 days. Im never getting on her wrong side ever, she will either send aliens or tom after me… im not sure which is best.
I liked the mix of CGI & the humans. Because they arent actual real animals like a lion in the lion king, they could be more cartoonish & all over the place. It worked.
There was a lack of Elvis. Now im not an Elvis girl. But when i rewatched the original i couple of weeks ago there was a lot more Elvis in it than in this one. I mean i get kids might not know as much Elvis, but lets be honest 20 years ago, would we? Nah. & if your seeing this guess what theres a massive chance you saw the original & know about Elvis, so put him in it.
The Romance wasnt there, which was good. Its a distraction in the original, but they didnt really give off a friends vibe apart from moments of peril.
I also dont know why we had to split the CIA guy & the social worker. I also get that Vich was busy saving the world with cruise but it lacked him as the muscle. Im sorry it just did. The other guy was fine but he doesnt have that voice. Maybe it was too much for 2 of him at the movies in the same week.
Lilo & stich were still chaotic, but did few more normal things people would expect in the real world more than a cartoon.
I was half expecting to cry. I did feel sad at one point, but lilo wasnt made to feel as much as an outsider & loaner as the original.
Im glad ive seen it, for me its a slight improvement on the original. But as is said at the start the original wasnt really my jam & the changes they made i think helped the actual core story telling. I get why the loyal in the stich cult are like the hell but as a film person i see why they did it.
Could be worse you could be watching snow white.
