So its taken a lot of hunting down & waiting but finally my local cinema is showing the film that beat The Wild Robot & Wallace & Gromit at the Oscars. Its time to head into the world of Flow & see if it really is deserving of that little golden statue.
I love my local cinema, just turn up as the film starts. It was pretty full in there. There were a lot of families for 6pm on a sunday night, but also a lot of just adults like me who were after it to complete the set.
& the only trailers i saw before the film started was for the Q&A for hundreds of beavers, ive still not decided if im going to see it yet. Its a bit pricey but i also know i might regret it.
& then the film started… beautiful.
I have never been so stressed for a cat in my entire life. Seriosuly each time it fell into the water or the water was rising i was like ahhh come on cat you got this. You really do.
I suprisingly didnt actually cry at this. I well up & got close & let out a choke at the end of the film when it was all over, but it was very emotionally beautiful. Every reflection in the water & the way the water moved, along with the landscape, it was so soothing & just effortless. Theres also like an out of body moment that cat has where everything connects, the visuals, ooooh im getting goosebumps thinking about it.
There were points, im not going to lie, when you could tell it didnt have as big a budget as some of the other animated films that were up for best picture, however to create that independently with no real help from the outside world is phenomenal & a work of art. IT really shows what you can do if you put your mind & talent to it.
It had the most relaxing score ever. It made you feel completely at one. It also helps when its a very simple story to follow as well. Everyone can understand it, even a child aged 3. It had a very clear message about what we are doing to our planet but also what you can do together & what you can do to survive as well.
I love that the cat kept knocking the lemurs stuff back into the boat. All the animals had the traits that were right by them & the noises spot on. I heard someone say how dare they make a cat sound like that, mate cats whine at anything, its not that hard.
Also did the cat turn up on the shore of its own subconcious?
I cant really say anymore without ruining it, because i basically think you should all go watch this & support independent cinema.
Honestly i do prefer The Wild Robot & Wallace & Gromit, however i can so see why this won the oscar & that it did deserve it. To be able to compete with all of those other films is an achievement in itself. Its just so soothing & magical to watch.
