All ive heard about Companion in the last week is its not really horror & find out nothing else. So thats what ive done. Ive avoided stuff about it & here i am for the 6pm showing at cineworld. Lets see if everyone was right about it & this may possibly be the shortest cinema club review ever.
Its half full for a wednesday evening at 6pm thats good thats very good. It was gen z & millennials, which lets be honest, is the target audience.
Trailers, the monkey, Micky 17, captain america, Novicanie & death of a unicorn. So all the horror shiz.
& then the film started… I might keep this short as its best to go in as blind as possible, because the less you know the better.
I had seen the trailer once before i went into this & whenever other reviewers said come back to us after youve seen this i bookmarked their video to do it & im so glad i did that, because it made the whole thing so much more enjoyable.
This is marketed as a horror for obvious reasons. Theres blood, torture, violence, death & control & manipulation. But its more what would you do if that was you, as well all of them. I actually think i laughed more than i gasped at this film, which is saying a lot, especially at a meet cute.
I was not expecting Harvey to be in this. Bless him. He really is such a good actor & im so glad he is getting so much work because of shadows. Also I had no idea Sophie was Cee! I got home logged the film & was like omg i know her. I had no idea that was her now (as im typing this ive realised ive not yet posted the Prospect review yet & half of you have no idea who im talking about). Also Jack Quaid, hes turning into a decent actor. Yea hes a Nepo baby but hes actually turning out alright, his future is bright.
Its time to go URGH MEN! at another film, because Urgh men! However it wasnt just all men in this film but it was mainly. It really does show the humanity & lack of humanity & greed in some people for sure.
Some of the deaths were grim & full on & just not nice to watch but also some were very funny & some were cleverly done & did come out of the blue.
There were some good flashbacks, usually i cant stand them in horror, but these were actually so important & so very funny at points.
It was well paced. It wasnt the best script, but there was enough in there & enough moments to make you second guess that you were like oooh what next. It also felt like one of those early covid films where everyone lived & filmed in the same house, which was weird, but yet it wasnt.
This is a lot more fun then you are expecting it to be, but it gets grim when it has too, but never goes to far. So yea im going to end it there & say go see this yourselves peoples.
