Weather this gets posted in time before the big day really will be something. I’ve got to get the last review up too so this is going to be tight I know it.

So that’s it the big 9 films the films that are up for best film on Sunday here they are.. here are the links to the reviews & then here are my opinions later on in hindsight. So what do you think people…

The Post

A good story, but is only up for all the awards based on pedigree of the director & actors in it. If it had been anyone else & had come out at a different time of the year, we wouldnt be having an Oscars conversation about it. Hanks & Streep are still both good, but its not the undeniable film of the year, which its being touted as

Dunkirk

I think the fact there are two reviews says alot about my feelings towards this film. Dont you? Its going to win a lot of technical awards, but no biggies which is just entirely unjust & not fair & im going to scream about that for a while, unless of course it does win them (which it should) & then im going to scream in celebration for it instead. Darn you Nolan.

The Shape Of Water

Lobster Lobster Fish Fish. Clever but a subplot that we didnt need & i didnt enjoy the love story, could of been about 30minutes shorter to tell us. This is the kind of film the Academy loves though so expect it to do well.

The Darkest Hour

Arise Sir Gary of the Oldman… carries the weight of the world on his shoulders & the rest of the film actually. A properly stunning performance that i will talk to my grand-kids one day & tell them about taking my mum to see this film as a treat. It was such a brilliant performance.

Lady Bird

Hmm… This isnt the coming of age film your looking for thats later on. If it wasnt a female writer/director this would be nowhere near this list. It just lacked love & empathy & as a teenager in this period, it didnt send me back to that place watching it. If it did it was to avoid watching the bad film.

Get Out (warning this contains spoilers as is a proper review)

When you mama hates horror more than you but even she is gripped & tells your pops about it before you can, then you know its a good film right. Anything from February 2017 being at the following years oscars has to have a shout at best film right. Its been in your head for so long.

Phantom Thread

I really enjoyed this. Its not my cuppa tea, & i knew nothing about it before i went in really, apart from Day-Lewis retiring but i really really liked it. Its not going to win anything at all but it is more worthy of an oscar nod than others on the list, which people say are outstanding.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri

Rockwell oh Sam Rockwell I love you. & Woody too obviously. the issue here is, will it be a split vote between them both for best supporting actor. Frances will win best actress (still need to see i tonya by the way) but am still disappointed in the ending, i know thats kinda the point but i wanted to know.

Call Me By Your Name

you know that coming of age film i promised you to go & see… here it is. It will be on dvd soon so you can watch it if you missed it first time around. Got properly emotionally involved, as i think everyone in the cinema did as there was a gasp at the end followed by everyone sniffing trying desperately not to cry, before all leaving the cinema blubbering wrecks.

So this is my top 9 in order & what I think the order should be on Sunday… it won’t be but this is my opinion

9) Lady Bird

8) The Shape Of Water

7) The Post

6) Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri

5) Phantom Thread

4) The Darkest Hour

3) Get Out

2) Call Me By Your Name

1) Dunkirk

Dunkirk won’t win best film though we all know that as much as it deserves it it just won’t neither will Nolan. Their for its Call Me By Your Name then thats my back up.

Put your money on the academy giving it to the shape of water. They like that kinda random lovey stuff which makes no sense. Its not my cuppa tea but i think it will be there choice, which is a shame really. So many good films & thats what they will pick.

Obviously i will let you know next week how the oscars went down, so enjoy them on sunday people.
