Just under a month ago there was a secret cinema, which this ended up being the film for but instead i went to London that day instead so i missed out on it. So tonight was my first opportunity to go & watch Tuner, which looks like a cool new heist film, fingers crossed it has me feeling all sorts of things.
Screen 7 was half sold out, which considering it the smallest screen the cineworld have & usually i sit in it with like 6 other people, i was happily surprised. A right mix of ages from teens to people in their later 60s were there for this. Solos, couples groups. yea this has got people hunting for performances for sure.
Trailers, the new richard e grant one, sense & sensibility, jackass, one night only, disclosure day & Verity. Proper mix of movies that for sure.
& then the film started… i was after a little more smash & grab if im honest.
I love a heist film. I think its my favourite genre. This wasnt a heist as such but it was built as a film where breaking into safes & getting information on people became helpful, especially to peoples moral codes at points. Yes we get a montage of several break ins at one point but i was expecting there to be a much bigger prize or for something with more stakes than the film actually gave us. Okay maybe thats my fault for asking more of it but i was expecting that to happen, & when it didnt i felt let down.
The pacing felt a little bit off if im honest. Once we had got through act 1 act 2 felt like it took 20 years & then when it really got going & got intense at the end & i was sat there going oooh are we going to change it up, are we going to have this moment or this thing might happen… it started to wrap itself up & i was sat there going is that it. I mean the last moment of the film need to happen like that but i was expecting more to happen before that, which was a shame. It built it up & then just went okay thats it lets end it. It hacked me off a bit.
I can confirm as i live next to a small airport when police helicopters when they take off at 11:30 at night as your trying to get to sleep are very loud. I might not live next to that one or a major one but still, its loud.
I did laugh a couple of times, but it wasnt an overly funny movie. That jokes &the side bit happened naturally when we needed them too.
The music in this film was wonderful, no idea if that girl could actually play the piano but it all sounded so so good through out the film. So if she did good on her & if she didnt well done to whoever did the score.
They explain part of why he cant hear but i have so many more questions about Leos character. He was good & did hold it all together & is shaping into a good male lead, he just needs a little push to really be the next big thing. We also looked at certain things on him which were never explained. He played his character well, we just as the audience needed a little bit more.
There were a few small blink & you miss them throw away comments really early on in the film which when we get to the rushed act 3 become super important in this film. I dont want it handed to me like some films do, but im usually good at spotting stuff & i almost missed one thing as someone was being talked over in the film or there was loud noise that you couldnt hear it in the film. So to a casual person watching this wouldnt have picked it up.
Boo to the ameircan health care system, what a shit way to live your life, knowing that you have to sell everything just to get basic human rights & care. Its so fucked up & unfair.
Hoffman is cool for the brief amount of time hes in it. I love that he has a bobble head as well i laughed at that each time it came on the screen.
This really could have been something i was sitting here praising telling you all to rush to go & see but no, its still good, i just think my expectations from the trailer where to high. So maybe its my own self love of heists that mucked this over for me. You will all enjoy it, but i was after the next step up from it.
