It feels like this has been on my watchlist for a little while, but i dont mind. Hopefully the wait means it still kicks arse & they just didnt know when to release it. So its time to return to the table & the continental & go see if Ballerina has got it going.
My Tuesday 8pm screening was half full, which was alright, considering theres a lot to come & a lot out at the moment, thats very good to see. Mainly millennials. I think we are the John Wick generation.
Trailers Weapons (oooh it looks good damn you mcu for buying our man) Superman, Jurassic world, fantastic 4 & F1 (still feels weird)
& then the film started… much like all the other John Wick films you know what your getting & its a solid part of the story.
So if youve not seen Midsommar please go watch it, i know its grim but you know its worth it (& Ari is going to be back in soon in a big way) But that was a cult, but its nothing compared to the village in this film, because damn, they be weird & crazy & dont give a crap about anything. Major population problems for multiple reasons.
Ana is so good. This is what we wanted more of from that painful bond finale. She kicks arse all the time, & she does get beaten up but she owns it. She really does. & her in that red dress in that club… oooohhhhhh people will talk about that scene for years to come she really did do a good job of keeping it true to the original.
I know when it first meets chapter 3, but when John appears for a second time, is that still while hes doing crap in part 3. He doesnt seem to be missing part of a finger. Im a bit concerned about where that bit happened. It was cool to see him turn up for a few moments in the film. Along with Winston & Charon (bless him whole cinema kid of hushed for his couple of scenes in respect).
So the actual main bad guy was good, which has been lacking this year, genuinely was concerned at points. But there is another character & actor heavily promoted for this film, who had minimal screen time. You know how some pedro fans go oh they just used him to get you to watch the film, yea that could be used for this actor (not keanu).
I love the whole daughter dad dynamics in it throughout, its always about someones love or safety in these films, its always routed to something pure & honest. However the whole time jump to her then being an adult i was like hand on shes much older than that. She was no older than 13 at the start & she would have been much older than when she met john & was sent out on missions.
There is a car crash scene which was incredible quite early on which was rather unexpected. What wasnt unexpected & was phenomenal was those flame throwers, i loved them. Actually made me feel even warmer watching it & i was grateful for the aircon too.
There were certain characters who we met for a few minutes who then we knew would be easily disposable. It wasnt afraid to kill people off. It kill you off at important points. The action was always so well choreographed. It just all felt like this was always going to be a plan for this franchise. IT never felt like a cash grab just a full on action film.
I love that we see another continental & how shiz goes down in it. I liked that.
No one said “be seeing you” again. Thats two films now in this franchise, whats going on. However we did get “consequences” which got a small cheer from the room.
This is a solid entry with the other 4 John Wick films, if this is the future of the franchise i am in, because its going to kick arse in all the best ways & Ana is really going to show it off.
