When work goes lets close early on a friday by half an hour & you go ahhh i can get to the 5:30 showing of a film, get in. So here i am ready to watch drop. Lets see what the happy death day people are making now.
My screening considering it was a weird time was a third full which i pretty good. Mainly Millennials & Gen X no one younger that 25 there.
Trailers some weird dawn time reset film, a clown that kills (no idea what thats called) Warfare, The accountant 2 & Thunderbolts. Basically everything thats coming out thats big soon.
& then the film started… That was exactly what i was expecting it to be.
Okay yes the end is cliché & a little bit rushed & you could always work out it was going to end like that, but if youve ever seen these peoples films before you will understand that this is exactly why they do this. Its all about the drama before it all that matters, once you know, you can enjoy the ending of it.
IT is all about the build up, which is brillaintly paced. The flash backs dont fell over done, they add to the right point to make you feel certain things. In the middle of act two there is a really vulnerable moment thats beautiful. It just works & flows & never outstays its welcome.
I had three potentials as to who the air dropper was & i quickly narrowed it down to two & then something happened & i worked it out. I was so happy i got it right but it only worked it out maybe 10mins before the reveal which is always good. It was also a good reason as to why they wanted her date & how the exposition was explained at this point. It just worked.
The two leads i have seen as bit parts in stuff before but they did have really good chemistry. It worked them being on a date & getting to know each other. It never felt forced, especially as it was a first date. They were both very understanding. It also showed that not all relationships are perfect & can be messy & not the way the world expects them to be.
Uperty restaurant urgh, although actual plates of food did turn up, no obvious tweezer food.
I loved the waiter, i wish we had a bit more of him being awkward. But it does prove that sometimes your star signs & horror scopes are real.
Its fun, its over the top & if you have seen any of the happy death day films, this will be perfect for you. I know some people are like meh about this, but i had a blast. These films are my guilty pleasure for sure.
