When i heard this was sold to Netflix back in the winter i sighed. There had been a lot of buzz about this & for it to not be in the cinemas i was livid & that was the reason it didnt make the hit/wishlist for 2024. It was a toss of a coin if im honest. But then i got excited when i saw it was going to have a very very small release window. So i leapt at the chance to see where locally was showing it… Nowhere! Not my cineworld, or the odeon i used to go to or any Brighton Cinema that didnt want to charge you under £22.00 (that is not an exaggeration that was for a single ticket) neither of my local independents. Crawley was the closest but only at 9pm on a friday night, which i couldnt prebook for or at 3pm monday to friday. What the hell. So i had to wait like the rest of you to see this on Netflix.
So here i am almost 24hs later reviewing it for you cinema club style. You know what that means not spoilers included here at all. We will be doing a rewatch though & it will probably be soon, because it was fucking phenomenal.
Everyone has joked this is the summer of Powell… Im not going to argue. Not only does he have chemistry with everyone in which ever film hes in, he has now proven he can be a leading male in a few films where its all hanging on his shoulders & here he earns it so much. Its also very easy to see why everyone acts to him & makes him look good. Hes not perfect yet but give it another years worth of roles & we will all be sitting there going oooh damn 2024 was when realised how fucking good he was.
Seeing him be so simple & normal & boring & then going full on method as a Hit man was incredible. I loved it. IT was like something just triggered inside him & it just worked.
I loved all the different personas as well for the Hit men. They were brilliant & how easy it was for him to research who was who & what would get them talking i love it.
I loe the mug shots & the court scenes all were very small but proved a point & i loved that he went to them all as Gary not Ron.
The relationship was very hot & the love “triangle” was very clever too I was really invested in how it was going to turn out. So when act 3 got going i was like oh damn & then it was like ahhh. It got twisty in some very good ways.
Are you a cat or dog person?
All Pie is good pie! Every time that came up i laughed.
I genuinely chuckled & laughed & hardly looked at my phone at all in the 2 hours this was on. I only looked at it when i saw a notification from someone going whos seen hit man & me & this person were almost watching it at exactly the same time. I was 10mins behind them.
I love how good but also how crap the police were.
Also all additional actors were good but it wasnt too many characters that you were like hang on who are you again. Everyone had a purpose.
Basically i need to stop typing all ill go full scale spoilers.
It was fantastic & when people ask me what ive seen recently i will say Hit Man. If i had seen it in the cinema it would have been a buzzer contender. Thats how good it is.
