The choice for the P in the a to z of physical media was either The Prestige or Prospect. Now based that the two main fandoms i am in on film twitter are either Nolan or Pascal i was interested as to where this would end up going. & it was a close vote to. But prospect got 62% of the vote. & i have not seen this before so i am really looking forward to finally meeting Ezra for more than just a man who makes noises.
& for once im not going to apologise for Pedro Pascal bias…
Lets get straight in there with a major spoiler shall we

When Cee has to cut off Ezra arm its not nice at all. Its the sound & the panic & the noise & then every now & then you flash to it actually happen & its rather grim. Its not nice at all but is done so so well. ITs very intense & you know it could all go wrong & that would mean they are both fucked because Ezra will die & Cee has no way of getting home.
However (& a select few of you know what im going to say now) the noises our man makes while this happens, in different context… damn, its a moment lets just say that.
For a first movie performance & to basically have to do most of it on your own or with one other person & to wear all that stuff the entire time, Sophie does a really good job. Yes there are points where you can tell she is just a kid doing this & is still new to it all, but also i think that helps. Shes scared & concerned just like Cee.
Our man is once again a relucent adoptive father. Completely by accident & really doesnt want it. & its in space too. He knows how to pick them doesnt he. He is the supporting character in this film, but he pops up as & when the film needs him to, to make Cee realise stuff, its all very much her story still. But hes there to take care of her or maybe its the other way around. Funny how this keeps happening. Also the helmet for the majority of the film stays on. No wonder he was cast as Din after this. However im still not sure why he decided to bleach the front of his hair for this role. He just turned up to set with it & everyone was like eh?
So thats what happened to Endor after the battle for the death star in star wars, interesting. Those ewoks had special jewels. ITs very lush in the day, but is poorly lit when they do the night time bits.
What is it with small budget films at the time this film was made, that one person is like we got what we came for lets go back & then the other being like nah its all okay, & then obviously for that person it then end up not being okay. You can sit there & tick it off well before they die that they will die. & thats exactly what happens when her Dad comes across Ezra & his mate. I love that the two take each other out & die Ezra is just sat int he middle like ehhhhhhh. Being all casual like its a normal morning for him, which im guessing it was. He just wanted gems & to get off the moon.
I get why she shoots him for breaking into her lander later on, but she should have had the guts to end him & call for help. Surely they would have sent help for a stranded teen with riches, surely, even in the weird space future they would come send a party to get her even if it was for the price of the jewel. She then als goes from how dare you kill my dad to wanting him dead to trusting him very quickly. Im not sure i would do that, even as a teen. Grief works in weird ways for everyone.
Cee running off after working out she was going to be sold, is natural. 100% agree with that, but good on Ezra for not doing that for help, shows he has some redeeming quality’s to him & hes not just greedy. Yes he still wants the jewels but still. He could have done that, been healed then left & made his fortune, with 2 arms.
The film loses its way after the arm cut, im sorry it does. The final 20minutes at the camp trying to extract the jewels in the dark is kind of scripted like they were like we need something to tie it up & get them back on their way so lets have them fail badly at getting the jewels & escape. It feels a little thrown together. They try & build the suspense, but just cant. & then they both manage to take out the other camp & fight there way onto a ship back home. A little convenient.
& then more upsettingly, it just ends. I was hoping we would maybe see Cee take her helmet off on the main ship as Ezra is wheeled away for medical care & shes just holding that first jewel & then maybe runs after him to try help. That would have been a more fitting end that them just getting off world & waiting to be put back on the ship.
For the budget & the time frame, this is pretty decent. It just needs a few more tweaks to make it expectational & a must watch for all. People told me for year this is like the new Moon. Im here to tell you that this wishes it was Moon, not much can beat Moon (well only 3 films in my opinion). But this is a hidden Gem in many respects. Essential Pedro Viewing to show the man can act.
But it does never reach the high of the arm chop off, im afraid to say, its iconic for lots of reason, but we never get to that point in act 3 which is such a shame, because if it had got close, wed have all been laughing & saying this is a new cult classic.
