Four films in seven days… all Oscar & Bafta & Golden Globe worthy. FOUR IN SEVEN! I’ve lost the plot god alone knows when im going to be up-to-date with the blogging. Or it will be like in 5 minutes time i guess.
Im not going to secret cinema tonight i think i’ve worked it out & its not something bothered about so wont be partaking, so after a nice long walk in the cold along the beach while chatting to Mama popcorn, i got to the cinema.
Quite a few people in there actually id defiantly go about a third full. Which for an expensive monday is pretty darn good. Guessing lots of people were doing this like me to tick it off the list to guess accordingly when the final list comes ut next week… is it i dunno i did google it & went ahh then & then forgot straight away. (update i didnt get it right booo stupid clues were completely incorrect odeon)
One point id like to make to the odeon. Screen Unseen happened in this screen right after this, & at the crucial part of the film a group of girls walked in chatting & laughing & then screamed oh what the hell is this wheres our film before storming out. Not really what you want to see why wasnt the person on the stairs doing there job properly. Telling them screen one wast ready.
Trailer wise we had the post(yes) downsizing (yes) i tonya (yes) & at last a proper full trailer for shape of water… i dont get it seriously i dont get it. WTF is going on there. That looks so weird why is that up for so many awards?!?!? answers on a post card please.
Then the film started. It was kinda what i expected to be honest, there was 3 things i didnt expect but other than that it did what it said on the tin.
Frances McDormand will get the plaudits mainly for this film. Her performance is good & she is the lead so it does all hang on her… that being said Sam Rockwell was out of this world. Not as good as he was in moon he will never ever be that good again, but oh man what a performance. I wanted to reach into the screen * hug him & go you’ve done it Sam you’ve finally got the recognition you deserved.
Woody was fabulous too, what a performance as him. Ideally can they share the supporting Actor oscar between them please academy? One performance doesnt work without the other. & what a double act it was.
There were some proper grim dark horrendous places it took us to which just made you wince. I know thats the point & the world isnt all cupcakes & rainbow but really some of it was a bit too far.
There was one joke which im not going to say as its derogatory, but i properly belly laughed at it. Weather i was mean to or not probably say alot about me as a person but i found it funny & lots of other people did too.
There were also some bits which helped you come out of the dark & did restore your faith in humanity for all of 10 seconds before dashing it again.
I know not all films have a happy ending or the correct outcome but id really like to have seen if the ending they were planning did actually happen. Your not inception film, this film your meant to make you mind up about the end & not just go did they didnt they.
It was a good film & im very glad i’ve seen it, but only to tick it off the list really. If you want to see this film before the Critics & panels give it Oscars & Baftas go, but if you can wait i would do that. I’ve seen better films in the last couple of weeks more deserving of a best picture oscar than this one.
Although Sam does deserve his for best supporting actor.
