Its December so bring on the christmas films… & heres one ive never properly seen before. Whenever ive seen it i’ve been at someone elses house or its been put on for kids so you dont sit down with them to watch it or ive been too busy getting drunk. So its an Ardman, what harm will this do before going to sleep on a wednesday night, bring it on…
Am i going to be an emotional wreck watching all christmas stuff this year on TV… This bloody ruined me i was lying in bed at 12:20 sobbing uncontrollably hoping this little girl would get her bike from James McAvoy & just feeling so warm inside but also so broken, god by the time we get to Elf on christmas Eve in gonna be a mess, or maybe thats all my tears done (i doubt it). Darn you 2020.
Its perfect voice casting it really is McAvoy, Laurie, Nighy, Broadbent, Jensen. Oh its just brilliant & its makes you proud to be British that we have all these legends in this little christmas film.
I love how even santas family at christmas get pissed off at board games & at each other, thats brilliant. It shows how normal they all are and that they just want a normal christmas as well.
I love how Steve has a designer christmas tree beard & a Versace santa suit for when he eventually take over so he can be all stylish & modern. I like the idea of mission control too & how its been modernised to the new set up.
One huge issue (& yes i know its a kids film so i should have a go at it) but everywhere is on the same time zone…. what!!!!!! NO NO NOPE! not having that at all. Kids will believe the earth is flat. We are all in different time zones, we are not all on GMT. I do like the fact its cornwall though.
My other bug bear is that it snows in the uk on christmas…. ARGHGHHHHHH Ive had it! FOR THE ONE MILLIONTH TIME HOLLYWOOD IT DOESNT SNOW HERE AT CHRISTMAS! In my 31 years we have got close to it once & it snowed on the 22nd, it was all gone by christmas eve. Stop romanticising it to make it do this. No no NOOOOOOO!
Those slippers, bloody brilliant, especially with the lions. I mean who hasnt got mad slippers for christmas at some point. I have christmas Socks (& tshirts & jumpers obviously) but i dont have christmas slippers, that being said my slippers are a bit of a novelty any way, mini mouse & hogwarts, but that defiantly a millennial thing that we do. Maybe not to that extreme but we do.
The passing of the Santa scene was the really sad & emotional bit, that & santa going into Arthurs mail room & realising what christmas meant to him. That was even sadder then when he threw everything on the fire. Oh its just to emotional. I just wanted to hug someone at that point.
I like the names for the reindeer which ended up being like that one & you whats your name, loved that. I struggle to remember some of them too sometimes, you only need them for 6 weeks of the year.
Eve being a UFO & mucking everything up was brilliant. I liked that, a fitting end for an old sleigh & i was very happy when Rudolph & Grand Santa got away scot free.
The North Poll melt down & all the elves going mad is the funniest bit of the film. It hilarious & i love it & how they all just freak out & then suddenly everything is back to normal, like ooooh pause the melt down.
Its just a bloody lovely ardman film. Its never goign to be Wallace & Gromit is it, but its a lovely 90 min christmas ahhhhh, which i got too overly emotional at if im honest, but i think i needed the cry. It just let everything come out & if its gonna take some christmas songs & films to do that to me this year, so be it.
Well worth a view on netflix people, your kids will love it almost as muc has you will.
