Spoilers
Every now and then you need a girly film & I decided on this one today. I hadn’t seen it before but the idea of being 27 peoples bridesmaids is a little scary.
First of all can I start off with the fact the leading man is called Kevin Doyle??? Wtf seriously, he’s not my Kevin Doyle. For people who don’t know there’s a lovely footballer called Kevin Doyle who is an honest decent fantastic player who got me fuck loads of points in my fantasy football team over 10 years. So when it was revealed that was his name it was like seriously no no no.
Having said that it is James Marston so you know. The man who never actually ages & is very cute. It’s so easy for you to fall in love with his character, even when he was made out to be bad I still was on his side.
Katherine Heigl is good, but at no point am i desperate for her to get her happy ever after and a man she deserves. Which as a female viewer i should be cheering her on from the out. Nope i wasnt. I actually wanted her sister to get the better life than her.
Why didnt she tell her boss after all of those years that she loved him & more to the point why didnt he figure it out that his assistant was desperate to go out with him. & yes its nice she does get to snog him in the end, but despite all the shit they went through, she still would have felt something. Come on girl. I mean even Kevin who youve know for like 3 weeks can see you are besotted by him.
The best friend character is quirky but instantly forgettable. so much so that i cant even tell you the actresses name or who she played. Which begs the question was she really needed for the film. I found myself relating to the guy in the taxi more.
Why did she keep all of those dresses? & also didnt she have here one from when she was like 7 for her mum? & also why did she agree to try them on infront of some random guy shed met 4 days earlier? far to weird & trusting?
Do we really need the big race to tell Kevin she loves him, life isnt like the movies this doesnt happen in real life i know but come on its a bit much. & whos to say that hes not entirely pissed off with her for everything so far, despite his best interests to make it up to her, she never shows any real sign of care or love for him until the end. Sorry Kevin chuck her shes not worth it.
All the bridesmaids at the end of the film is brilliant tho all 27 in the dresses she kept for all the years.
It was a good film, maybe i wasnt really in a romcom mood when i saw it… i dunno, i will watch it again and put amendments at the review if i feel my feelings have changed.
Oh & FYI ive been a brides maid twice when i was 3 & 23… the dress to the left was from when i was 3, my most recent is in the roof
