Spoilers
The 3rd stage of jet lag has hit & it has hit hard. First stage was the getting back to being at home, second was catching up on sleep & sleeping for ages to get the body clock on case, & now were onto number 3. I took mama shopping she needed food as we hadnt been around to take her for over a week & whilst walking around the supermarket that rhymes with Fasma, i felt the floor spin round. Oh god that was weird. so i managed to get us both home in one piece & now im just sitting on the sofa & i dont know what to do. I just need to stop & relax.
So on the way home i saw someone watching fantastic beasts on the plane & though ahhh i know what i should watch but sleep is more important. so i decided now im home & going through the final stage of jet lag, to watch it here on our large tv in the lounge. Happy days well maybe let see how i feel when i stand up.
So yes this is just the world of Potter making more money by making us all go to the cinema again & bye the DVD & watch the trailers & get new wands & want a load more potter stuff, but im a sucker for it im in & if the rest are going to be like this im in it for the long run again.
Basically this is set before Potter way before Potter, & involves on Newt Scamander & his suitcase full of amazing creatures & when escaped from it one stupid afternoon & how that along with all the other things going on in new york lead to a huge misunderstanding & the wizarding world being exposed. Through in some muggles who are onside as well & a mad church family, & you have a brilliant start to a fantastic set of stories.
Oh Eddie! Eddie Eddie Eddie Redmayne. You stunning man you. Just work that Newt do it girlfriend. He was brilliantly awkward & loving & caring & funny & just fabulous. His face when he emerges from that brief case in the court is one of the greatest moments in modern cinema it really really really is. Its everyone expectation & look of horror as to whats to come followed by his look of bemusement that hang on this isnt central park anymore. He is so captivating. Newt is in safe hands people. Thank god for that.
I know i bang on about this but we seriously need to start talking about Colin Farrell acting skills people we really really do. He is outstanding. When i first watched it i though ah that was good, but knowing now what i know, makes that performance even greater than it actually was just mesmerising. oh fuck it lets go straight for the epic spoiler he is Grindelwald, which means he is also channelling Johnny Depp too. This means when you watch it for the second time you go oh my fucking god i see i i get why it went off one one sometimes & it was slurred,or stumbled. Hes playing a good guy whos bad or good who has odd intentions whos also channelling another actor playing a character. If thats not a performance you want to see, i dont know how else im going to turn you head on Collin. Go watch some of his films people please.
Everyone else is very very good too, even the people with like 1 line dont feel like they’ve just got one line. Its an allround ansamble piece.
Anything involving that suitcase is a pleasure to watch, be it the getting the creatures in or out, their different habitats inside it, to the fact its got a muggle safety button is just brilliant. But that first time he goes into it & Jacob laughs then follows him thats brilliant. I would laugh if i saw that too. But when he emerges in that court room & they are all full of oh wow… thats the magic of Potter right there. Its stunning its brilliant & its one of the most amazing bits of the entire film. Its not there for long but i love it i really do.
Niffler is the best creature to come out of that suit case, he really really is. Hes the one with the best personality & i love the fact that he just steels anything shinny. Hes going to be a proper nuisance going forward isnt he.
Now when i first saw this film in the cinema i was fine & came away really happy & content. However this time when they have to obliviate Jacobs memory & he says goodbye & forgets everything i cried, i cried alot. Which is stupid as i know he gets a happyish ever after with his bakery which they give him the capital for & that she goes to see him which helps him to remember & that hes in the next film, but no i properly feel apart at that point i really did. I blame the jet lag thats what it was. I know it wasnt it was just me being really soppy like i am but it is so lovely.
When they nearly die in that pond, thats a nice metaphor for your life flashing before your eyes. Okay yes they are being executed, but thats quite a nice way to view it really isnt it. That you just slip away with your memories into liquid. Thats nice, even as a punishment.
The random references about Dumbledore & lastrange & Hogwarts make me go a little bit childish but thats the muggle in me. I love it when they reference stuff like that.
I really want to know how this all goes forward really. I want to know what they do with it. Theres no physical story for what happens next so im really looking forward to whats going to happen.
As an adult im still very glad that i have the wizarding world in my life, & that its going to be a huge part going forward. Its a lovely sensitive yet thrilling film, good for all ages & leaves you wanting to know whats going to happen next, but also is fantastic as a stand alone piece.
