The last advanced preview of the year, & im not sure i have enough tissues for We Live In Time but im willing to sob uncontrollably at this for the majority of it. Also its Queen Flo & Andrew whats not to love.
My cinema id say was 70% full. Clearly everyone was like nah we aint waiting for this. Also there is a lack of anything else still at out cinema. With November being stacked with long films, there is a lack of choice at the moment.
Trailers, Queer, Here, The Brutalist & Baby Girl. All awards bate 100% but im down for all of them especially baby girl.
& then the film started… Hands up if you didnt cry, cos that will be easier.
I need to let you all know now that this film has a nonlinear structure, because i dont think it needs it. This was already a romantic & emotional enough story that we didnt need it suddenly going back 5 years then back a week then back 8 years etc. Especially when the trailer all but gives away that someone isnt well. Its obvious. It might not tell you but its clear either Flo or Andrew or their kid isnt well. & when you watch the film its like the second scene in the film, so its not like it makes you wait for it.
I guess it works to show that life can be good & crap at the same time, which is fair enough, but still it would have done that in a normal structure too. It really is very emotional, with the way how little things in life need to be celebrated & noted. Also about your own legacy & how certain little things you do have a massive impact in the future from throw away conversations to really life changing moments.
Both Queen Flo & Andrew act their arses off. Its a pleasure to watch & to see how real it all felt. It did feel like i was watching someones actual life happening in front of me at times. The nailed it.
The birth scene & the lead up to it, well i think this will be studied for years to come, because it was rather special. From the cars, to it being new years, to where she ends up having it & the help from the people around them. Its wonderful. I cried a lot watching that. At how under so much stress everyone comes together to help someone they dont know out & shows the best in us humans, in our time of need.
I also cried very hard at the last couple of scenes of the film, because they were just perfect & beautiful & if you dont sit there watching the credits trying to compose yourself, who even are you. Wish id gone to a film festival to be given my own tissues.
The beautiful score & cinematography just makes it feel intimate & even more romantic than it already is. It does get very sexy on a couple of occasions to, but it wasnt just for the sake of it.
Weetabix getting a shout out! That was not on my bingo card mainly cos i didnt think it was still a thing. So did Chocolate Orange but that is still a thing for sure. Celebrations also being an ice breaker was a very good use. That in a painful moment got a few crying giggles in the room
I love how the film embraces the posh uperty stupid cooking everyone is obsessed with but then also takes it down to. That is quiet funny showing that theres a time for it but also that its one of the most mad things in the world.
Its heartbreakingly lush. I smiled laughed cried & got very emotional. Its well worth a watch. Yes the structure needs to be striaght to make it perfect, but its still stunning. Grab your box of tissues & get ready to blub.
