TODAY IS THE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CINEMA CLUB IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its a week delayed due to cineworld issues but its here & i have now been & sat in a dark room with strangers for 2 hours. Yesssssss. I am so happy. Nothing can take this feeling away. Even if this film is crap i dont care. I am back & i am at the cinema… & ive had my first vaccine now too. Nothing can beat this, nothing.
So lets see if i can remember how to do this after 241 days shall we.
So this was my local cinema, which now with social distancing still in place is awkward to book. Even more so now that my boss has brought me a gift voucher which you can only use in person which is a pain. So i had to go & book this up a week in advance in person. But theres lots of sanitising stations a good one way system, good staff & lots of social distancing in seats. Due to the social distancing, & being in screen 3 a screen that would normally have about 45 people in only has 15 is weird, but its was sold out (i mucked them over being a one) Proper mix of age groups too. everyone from about the age of 25 to 75 in that screen. People do just want to go back to the cinema.
Also the fact that the Dome let you take of your mask to watch a film is very good for me as i have to wear my glasses when i go there.
Trailers lots of trailers. I actually paid attention to each one with so much detail. Cruella yay, In the Heights yay, Dream Horse yay, A Quiet Place 2 yayayayayay, the Father yay. So yeah thats lots of films i really want to see which all look so good & fabulous & i just cant wait, so much new content… I love it. Usually i moan about the trailers a bit but today no complaints here. You dont know what youve got til its gone.
& then the film started… ahhhhhh its time its time.
If im honest, its average at best. I think the hype of it being my first film back & being new content & being a film to see on a big screen makes it better than it actually is. Im sure in 6 months time i will watch this film again & go really i got hyped for that.
Dont promise me an Angelina Jolie film with just one proper kick arse scene in it… nah give me more than that. I know shes no longer her young lara self or Mr & Mrs Smith but still. We need more than just what we got from here in this. When she did go full Ange it was epic, but i wanted so so sooooooooooo much more from here. She moped around feeling sorry for herself too much.
The best bit of the film is the double act of Aiden Gillen & Nicholas Hoult as the bad guys, who just turn up cause havoc & kill whoever is in there way & i ship that. Both so convincing & so chilled about the whole situation. I sat there watching them going ooooh i want to know more about you & why you do your job. That was one thing i didnt like we were given part exposition but not enough clues to tie it all up. Like we knew he was on the run but what did he find out. Why did the kid trust the first person he saw. Why did someone say that & then not reference it back later? That irritated me.
Lots of scenes of trees & woods & countrys lanes that werent on fire & then when they were or there was lightning was CGId over the top so that it wasnt believable.
If your preanal do you ride a motor bike, quad bike or a horse? I mean she went for the horse… im guessing as theres no engine, but im guessing that horse died & if it then made any actual noise thats giving you up like a bike too, but at least a bike you can control. Very random. Also it wasnt the horse we met earlier in the film either.
Why didnt they put the fire out sooner & why did they only do sky diving to look cool at certain points in the film & not the rest of it?
Some of the deaths & torture were good, one a little over the top but still that was cleverly done. Some more poetic than others, but some of them you were like yeah that clever well done film youve redeemed yourself slightly there. It didnt shock or make you go thats a step to far at any point.
So the best way to sum this film up is you know how Gerard Butler about 8 years ago started making action films with his name on it & he turns up to get you in the seats & then everyone else has to hold it together… yeah thats what they did with Jolie. Shes in it & when she does do what she does best its good. But the film only works because of Gillaen & Hoults ruthlessness & being proper bad guys (i mean they arent Ben but still).
I did enjoy it & was sad when it was over, but i think i enjoyed it more as it was number one for the year. Lets see how i feel about it at the end of the week after a few more trips to the big screen.
#Cinemaclub2021 is back baby 7 months to watch 15 months worth of film in, thats doable i think…
