Happy IMAX Festival day!
I usually avoid these kind of days my chain put on, because i have a card, i can go to all of this whenever i want, yes i have to pay an uplift for some of them but still. However when i saw that the 10am showing to start the day off was my Golden Buzzer winner from last year, The Wild Robot, i had to go see it. For everyone else, the IMAX Fest was £5 but my uplift was only £1, which is good. Also getting up early to be emotionally ruined will mean im all good for tomorrow early wake up for race day.
I’ve had this booked up for a little while, almost since IMAX fest was announced & i have been chatting with cineworld for a while & i joked at the start of the week that i have my own little Fink. If youve not seen the Pedro MTV interview where he was given a Jelly Cat go watch it… yea i think all Pedro fans now own one. They said ahhh he she see it & i was like how can i smuggle him in & they went just bring him. So i put him in my bag & took him all the way up to crawley & sat him in an IMAX chair. Mum did say he looked like Pedro when i put my glasses on him.
Id have liked Fink to have his own seat, but it was all but sold out. Obviously due to my eye sight & Screens i sit near the back of cinema screens. so i couldnt see how many people were in the lower tier but when i looked online it was very full. See this is what happens when a film is at a decent price. So Fink sat poking out of my Mando bag on the floor. There were some odd ones like me with no kids but it was mainly families.
Trailers, How to train your Dragon, Snow white & Flow! Finally Flow!!! I cant wait cos if its better than the wild robot i will be amazed. I also love how the 4 in the IMAX preview is the f4 4 now.
& then the film started… Magical. If you want to read my previous cinema club review its here.
There was a mum & id say her 14 year old daughter next to me. She hadnt seen it before, she said i hope this is worth getting up early for when she sat down next to me i told her it was. So when the migration scene happened & i was crying my eyes out, i felt a tap on my knee & she whispered are you okay. I said no & looked at her, she was crying her eyes out too. I offered her a tissue but she already had one & then said she was sad her girl wasnt crying i told her she will do one day.
Yea looking at that beauty & hearing that score on that big a screen & that clear sound in IMAX… it sends shivers down your spine as he migrates & even when kiss the sky starts. & dont get me started at the end, cos i was a mess. When i got back to the car i gave Fink a huge hug before driving home, cos the way he shudders with sorrow that hurts.
Can i just say that the bed time story scene & the change in animation is so underrated. Yes i talk about the migration scene a lot but that its such a nice little calming soothing break in the film, it just works & the different drawing & creation of it is wonderful.
The story is still so heart-warming & kind. I mean it makes you feel for a robot that can express no real emotions at all.
All the little voice bits as well by all the people with maybe 3 or 4 lines, it just works & is so good. Like Vick as Thunder Bolt, phenomenal.
The way the passage of time is shown too such a clever way of doing it.
I just need to stop now, i today got this on Blu Ray as im watching all my buzzer winning films so this will be rewatched again in the coming months.
Yea this was the best fil of 2024 & its not even close… Fly like you not like them…
