Really busy sunday today, really busy. Up for a beach walk & then to a bestie so she can moan about her ex & i can play with her kids, then off to my parents for F1 to cry & say goodbye to some complete legends, & now the cinema. To see the Menu. I am so looking forward to this. Im really intrigued as to how cool & dark this is going to be & ive tried to avoid as much traffic & spoilers about it as i possibly can. But it looks so good.

The Sunday 6pm showing is 85% sold out. Each row at at least two thirds full. & a proper mix of all sorts of ages. From teenagers (as it was a 15) to an elderly could who turned up about 2mins before it started. The place was a buzz, clearly word has got round that this is very very good.

Trailers Opp, Avatar, Matilda, Bones & All, Violent Night & The Infernal Machine. So thats a yes to all other then Avatar then happy days all round.

& then the film started… WOW! JUST WOW! PHENOMENAL!

so lots of you after Black Panther came out all started posting your top 10 films of the year online & saying yes this is set, its not changing. THATS WHY YOU HAVE A BLOODY GOLDEN BUZZER! Seriously. This film if i hadnt hit it would have been a contender for film of the year its so amazing & brilliant & really was a mind fuck in the best kind of way. I loved it.

There was not one bad performance in the entire film. Everyone was so well suited to there role, i felt like i was intruding on something & that i was apart of this menu. I mean Ralph as the head chef was stand out. His monologues about the food & the way he clapped & smirked, oh god. He was pulling out a performance which people in years to come will go did you see Fiennes performance in the Menu? seriously he was that good. Thats not taking anything away from Anya & Nicholas, oh no they were phenomenal as well. Both smacked it out of the park & just oozed class & style.

& thats not to say that the rest of the supporting cast, from the other diners, who were so well picked for their roles & made it so effortless, to people on the island, to him mum who just drank, & the chefs. Perfect. Im not sure you could have cast it any better if im honest. It just worked & it was so organic.

I tried to avoid as much about this film other than the cinema trailers as possible, but there were points in it that made me jump oh go the fuck. It was so intense & beautifully crafter, that any second the dynamic could change & no one was safe from any of it.

The monologues & the menu were brilliant, hilarious & scary, i loved it so much. Just ahhhhhhhhh. As someone whos family has worked in catering their entire lives, i get some of the pomp & circumstance. & yes i can see that people do want to be apart of a special food club & are upperty about it, but this really took the piss out of this whole world. Especially the bread course. That is a scene i dont think i will be forgetting for a while.

Everyone reasons for being there were so crafted & it was so clever & interesting & just yea you understood why when the reveals happen.

Nothing was shock value for the sake of it. It all did just work & was very clever & well paced & the oh fuck moments happened at the right time.

When someone saw something at the start of act 3 i was like ahhhh that important thats clever, thats good & then when it helped later on i was like yessssssssssssssssss. Thank god for that.

I also liked that something else happens in act 3 & you think ooooooooooooooh & then it doesnt & most of the cinema laughed & then for the finale we were all chuckling a little & then went oh crap its actually happening. The room had this sudden realisation, there was no bluff & we collectively went oh. But i love that it had the balls to stick to that ending.

The musical score, felt foodie if that makes sense, with hitches of oh ekk im watching a thriller. It did just work perfectly & ebbed in & out of itself. Beautiful.

When it was done i sat there for a few second & said Fucking Wow! The row in front of me turned round & were like oh yea that was bloody good, but the row behind were like nah why did we waste our evening on that. So its obviously going to split opinions, but thats a bloody good thing.

If this had come out before i hit my golden buzzer it would have been a contender for film of the year 100%. There is no denying that. & i really cant wait for you all to watch it so we can chat about this film next year. Its that fucking good.
