September 3rd was the last time i was at the cinema… today is the 14th. a lot of you will be like thats no time at all, for me thats forever. I’ve been on a mini break then back to work so this was my first real chance to get to the cinema on a sunday afternoon to watch the long walk which im hoping is as epic as everyone says it is. Please dont let me down movie.
my 5:30 (see odd time during the week) showing on a sunday was 70% full which was pretty good. A right mix of people too. Also im a little concerned as cineworld now have a sign outside that says no external food from like Pizza Hut, McDonalds etc. Im still going to smuggle in my cuppa tea though going forward. I wonder who tried to bring in a stuff crust & got caught.
Trailers The Strangers 2 (finally i might get my questions answered after part 1 dont let me down), The black phone 2 (im sure this is the secret screaming soon so much so ive booked it) Keeper (looks weird) The Smashing Machine (rocky rocky) & Him (Peele cant get it wrong right). Im amazed there was a lot of horror in this especially as this is an intense thriller not horror.
& then the film started… Another Buzzer Contender to add to the list.
I was not expecting to cry watching this film. But i was so invested & cared about everyone in it & then a moments happened at the start of act 3 & it hurt, it so so hurt & i was crying & then i looked at the guy 3 seats away who was also crying & i felt a bit better, but im glad i wasnt the only one. The whole film was so thought provoking & made you think about life & what you do with it & how you only get one opportunity to make a difference or do something. IT really hit every emotion.
At the start of the film, every time everyone we cared about was close to being taken out of the walk, my foot was tapping. I was nervous. Especially as one of the main known actors at the start of this film doesnt even make it to the title screen. I also like the fact they were all like hang on they dont actually die when they leave the walk do they. Oh not only do they die but its bloody brutal & is not held back. Its horrible & some of the deaths are horrendous for all sorts of reasons. There were a lot of injuries as well that were shown due to the walk which made a few people gasp in the screening.
The score is intense, so intense, even when they are just walking & there is moments of quiet. Like it sends shivers down your spine.
I love the fact they shot it in order & that the main group did walk all of it, it makes it so much more real. It also makes the bonds they made on the walk even more real because they really were just walking along together all the time. Yes they are acting but still, they really were a little clan being together. It then hurts even more when you learn what peoples wishes & stories are for why they are doing the walk & how people change because of it. It felt like you were intruding on something really personal.
Walking while you sleep… really? I mean if thats true its amazing you body can do that.
Theres a scene in this film where there is a high & an incline they have to walk up at night & lets just say my fit bit said when i got home that for that 5 minute section of the film, my heart was racing so so much.
I love how it ended, i know some people dont but i liked it. Thats all im going to say.
It also shows how much we are used to the whole reality tv & survival or the fittest & last contender stuff, the formula never gets old & we always lap it up & its always really well done on screen.
Yes i was not expected to be as effected by this & it was phenomenal & intense & my mind still thinks about certain parts of it. This is a surprise contender for film of the year that was not on my radar at all.
