Its Sir Danny Boyle Season at Cineworld. 4 weeks, 4 Danny Boyle films to celebrate 30 years of his work. Their first offering is my favourite film of his (except for the opening to the 2012 oylmpics obviously). Its Sunshine. I have already reviewed this on here before as a DVD film, but i just wanted to see it on the big screen & get lost in it.
Its all but sold out. I was like hang on why have 2 people come & sat next to me & then 4 people came & sat the other side. I was not expecting that for Sunshine. Like 28 days later 100% but not this. Obviously we all missed this first time around (oh 28 days later & trainspotting sold out by the way & i want to see 28 days later at home when i have time). So yea i was very impressed.
Trailers were The Watched, Furiosa, Boarderlands, The Bike Riders, & The Strangers C1.
& then the film started (loved the retro BBFC Card)… If you want to see my full review please click here, but damn i have a new love for my fave film of Sir Dannys. Also might spoil i mean this is from a while ago.
There subliminal pictures & messages in this film. When they go to the other Icarus, their are pictures of the crew. I had no idea. It was very freaky. Also the high pitch bits to throw you off really do in a cinema the person in the row in front of me actually was moving their head around. When it gets bright with the sun too, its full on.
Mark Strong as much as you never fully see his face, hes ever scarier on the big screen & it isnt nice at all but is so so good. Properly off putting & not very nice. Thats what a good villain is. Also when his flesh & arm is pulled off thats horrible.
Why do i always forget Chris Evans is in this? Every time i watch it & he appears im like ahh yes of course. & hes like the 3rd biggest role in the film too. I think because of the guy who adores the sun & the scientist i kind of forget the other important person & then damn. There he is being all angry.
The life lessons & do 7 people have the choice of their own lives or humanities in their hands is very very clever & good. It really does make you sit there & go would you be willing to do that. I know in the end they have no choice & they know the ones that are left are going to die & not return home, but its so clever. It was what people were talking about as we all left going well, would you have killed that guy? Would you have diverted? It really does make you think.
The group behind me as we left the screening one of them asked hang on did he survive? I heard one of them sigh like oh for fuck suck. Hes dead he was in a bomb falling into the sun. How the hell do they think that he got away. Its not ambiguous he found his peace to save the world & then died.
Im so glad ive seen this on the big screen. It was fantastic in a horrifying way & it just worked so so well. I recommend any chance you get to try & watch an old favourite, you go & do it as soon as possible people.
