Advanced preview time, September 5 is what we are watching today. Its on my hitlist for the year (we will be knocking a few of these off in the next few weeks) & i know its a real life event but since ive seen the first trailer ive been like no avoid, go in blind cos this looks incredible. So im excited to see this. Yes i know most of the world has seen this before we have got it but i dont care.
Where are my freebies cineworld? The last few previews weve had nothing. It wasnt packed either, it wasnt like they had to give stuff to all of us. It was a proper mix of ages from 20 to 70 were in the cinema, clearly its got a lot of peoples attention.
Trailers, Bridget Jones, Captain America, The Last Show girl, Novocaine, & there was one more but i cant remember what it was. One of my fave things about the advanced preview though is no stupid unlimited adds because we are already the converted.
& then the film started… I know nothing of this event but this was fucking incredible.
In the time it took me to drive to the cinema watch the adverts & trailers & the film then drive home & do the washing up when i got in, took up the time the day before that it took just watch the brutalist. I could watch all of septemebr 5 twice in that time. I know which i would prefer to do… Watch this twice.
I was on the edge of my seat throughout, wondering how they were going to cover this event & the lives at stake. Like i had no idea that tv stations use to share satellites to show live events around the world & it basically become a bidding war as to who wanted to show what. Also its so bad that for some of them it wasnt about the truth but was for their ratings & career & not the lives at stake, but i guess that is the case of the world. You got to be cut throat sometimes.
Everyone in that sports production room has such an important job, it was so cleverly done, to show how everyone covering this story actually had a role in the story developing. Especially the guy who kept running to & from the olympic village with film to get things on tv. The new anchor actually had very little to do other than just fill & pass on information, while people were screaming in his ear.
I actually know nothing about this before i saw the trailer a couple of weeks ago, so i have no idea how it was broadcast, as i wants even a live when it happened. But i was so fascinated as to how it was all going to go down.
The mood shifts were so good. There were moments where we in the cinema all collectively remembered to breath in the fast paced news world. There was even a couple of jokes to lighten the mood. But often these were then replace with a dark moody tone because at the end of the day this was a hostage situation that was going on in the real world literally meters away from where they were. The most stressful chat was cant we show someone being killed on live tv, the moral & duty of care in that conversation was so gripping. It really made you think, what would you do.
It was a fast paced film, i was glad for some moments of calm just so i could calm down. It was busy & hectic, filled with people talking over each other, people rushing about. Phones ringing, phones not ringing. It just captured the panic of the room but also their desire to report the truth as well as they could.
I also learnt a lot about it while i watched it & went down, at one point there was a bit too much exposition dump, but it all fell into place for the end of the film really well. My mum actually asked her sister about this as she went to see it & she said it was phenomenal.
Also the timing of making this & its release &the subject matter, brave but the right choice.
This is a film which is awards bait, there no denying that, but damn i was hooked. If we can get more awards season movies like this in the coming years, it will make the winter much more enjoyable. I really want to see this again, i felt it all, i want to feel that intensity again.
