It is time… at fucking last
on Monday morning Parasite made history & became the first foreign language film to win best picture at the oscars, in an otherwise botting & predictable night for the awards (TAIKA WON THATS MADNESS) but yea 1917 which was tipped by everyone to win it just didnt in the end & Parasite cleaned house & grew without a host… sorry had to do that. Today the Tuesday evening is my first chance to see the film, so i am & i cant wait its going to be epic.

When i booked my tickets a couple of days before the oscars it was showing about 15 other people had booked it. By the time the moon man appeared if say screen 7 was 70% full which is pretty darn good. A right mix of people there too. Its showing what the hype does for this kinda film.

Trailers we had Greed (which looks good) Dark Waters( which looks good) a new Birds of Prey one with Bruce the Hyena (who is so cute & also a little odd as the film is actually out now hmmmm) & Mulan (which looks off but im up for it). So good set of films people.

& then the film started… I completely understand why this won best picture on Sunday… that is something special.

I’m going to rain on its parade first before i get gushing about the rest of it. One thing didnt work i afraid to say & its not the films fault. I a m sure in South Korea they were all pissing themselves so much watching this & were it fits of giggles. However when you read the joke as a sub title you go ha yea thats clever but its greeted by smirking & not hysterics. You get the joke but as you read it instead of hear it you dont laugh as much as you usually would. It was still funny, but it was more a oh i get it. Thats the only downer i have to say about it i think.

Foreign language films i think you always concentrate more watching, because youve got so much to deal with & go over & review & i think that makes you appreciate the film a little bit more. You’re looking at every detail. Another good thing about Foreign language films is you often dont know the cast therefore you are more into the story. Its not a hollywood actor or someone youve seen in 30 movies previously. You believe the story more because you dont know whos in it, which is in its favour.

I wasnt sure who i was rooting for & who i wanted to do well or get away with it or find information out. I was just sitting there going oh i dont know what i want to happen next. It properly tested your loyalty to all the characters in it & you sat there one minute wanting one person to be the hero & then it swapped in 10 seconds. None of the people were actually that nice or were a true hero or villain. A lots of the people i did just want to slap in the face for the way they treated people. Some of them you just wanted to give a reality check to them & tell them to fuck off or man up or all of the above.

I had been told there was a twist & i was sitting there going o when is it happening. !hour no twist 1:05, 1:10… then bang twist & i t complete changed my outlook & it was so random & it was so brilliant & i was sat on the edge of my seat for the rest of the film. I really didnt see that coming at all. I ws a bit angry at myself for not seeing it coming. I reckon its obvious when you look back on it. It really left me going oh so now where do we go what happens next & then as things spiral around & out of control its just so gripping & so oh wow. & then it goes wrong & then just even more wrong & your just sitting there screaming yes this is amazing. The film had the guts to do it & it needs commending in a hugeway.

Some proper tricks & horrific bit in the film do occur. It made someone shout out at one point in the cinema oh thats a bit much ewwwwwww. It was cringe at times but you know its kinda true. It did get disturbing & wont be for everyone, people will say that some bits were a bit too much.

I love the social commentary about the west & the east & different cultures & also the class divide & how people are snobby & look down on others without even thinking about it. It had the honesty to deal with that head on & show the ramifications of that. It properly has a go at all of us for it.

Well if this is your cuppa tea you will adore it. If your collecting for award seasons you will like it. If you appreciate a good story & good cinema you will talk about it as passionately as i am. Its bloody good & did deserve its huge night in hollywood.

Congrats on the oscars guys, you do owe me £8.50 tho.
