Time for another advanced preview, (im missing next weeks im sad) & this one is for Honey Dont! A film all i know about is its a private detective & Chris Evans runs a church & thats about it so im intrigued. Theres also been minimal trailers for it, so i am looking forward to this.
I’ve seen a lot more busy advanced previews than this. Id say screen 1 was half full but i had my row all to myself so i was very happy with that. A right mix of ages too.
Trailers, The Long Walk, Big Bold & Beautiful, One Battle after another & The Smashing Machine. Hopefully i get to see all of these in the coming weeks. The shift towards awards season has begun.
& then the film started… you know when you leave a project & go oh that will do but you never end it so you just throw it all together randomly… thats what this film is.
Yea this film for all of its set up just copped out in its act 3 by having a creaming match, killing someone off randomly, then having a fight, then bad motives for the bad guy & then tried to make it cool & mysterious again. All in the space of 15 minutes. It was going average up to that point, but that just made us all go urgh. Someone was actively raging as i left the cinema walking behind them. That what not sticking your ending does people, you up cinephiles.
I liked the noir style, it was very cool. But then was very confusing that it was trying to be all cool & interesting & back in time & then just was like oooh it 2025 peoples. I get people dont like changed etc but it was so polar opposites. It felt weird to go from one thing like that to another. It was intentionally ironic, but it then just threw you out of it again.
What was with the church? It was explained & then it was a front & then it had something else going on & then it turned into a sex church? Anyone?! Anyone?! Very random. However seeing Chris Evans in not very much was very enjoyable. Also he had chemistry with every single person in this movie & they gave it back (im sorry im so pissed at Dakota still i really am).
Almost all the sex scenes were hot in this. Like there was one person who the row in front covered their friends eyes at one point & i was like okay they are at least 15 to be here, thats a bit much that your doing that. So maybe dont watch this with your parents or just watch the spicy moments without them. There was one scene at the bar which was full of sexual tension. However there were some jokes about sexuality which were just pushing it a bit.
It was funny at points. I did laugh, but cant sit here & name something particular that made me laugh.
There were too many sub plots going on which all had to be concluded by the end of the film, of which only 1 got a satisfying outcome in it. The main one that pissed me off was Honeys main family dynamic. Dont get me wrong Margaret did a good job dealing with so much random shiz & was a good lead but there was just too much jumping about that had to all go together.
I was busy sitting there waiting for act 3 to have a particular theory that i cant talk about without spoiling it, so i was really disappointed in its end.
This isnt even going to be one that grows like Drive Away Dolls has, its not one im going to rush to go rewatch at one point for sure. It was average, but then the finale ruined the averageness. See movies this is why you got to stick your ending, to have a chance.
