If you have been here long enough you will know how i feel about the first Gladiator film. That i believe this to be the reason i am a film buff. You also if you really know me, know i think our man (Pedro) will be a distraction in Gladiator II thats out next month. I was hyped for Gladiator II the second it was rumoured. Him being there will either be a nice addition or just to much slutty knees & leather (I mean so will Paul but still).
See how easy it is for me to be distracted by him, i cant even get through my little intro. Any how, with the new one coming out, it meant the first one was in cinemas again for 1 weekend only. So this was my chance to finally see one of my favourite films of all time in the cinema finally. So lets do this.
Its a 7:15 friday night showing & id say its got about 100 people in screen 2 for this. Id also like to say a huge thank you to the couple who came & sat the row in front of me who when they sat down said to me, your brave coming to the cinema on your own. I said well thank you, but i do this at least twice a week & this is one of my favourite films of all time. We had a little chat & i think I convinced them to get a cineworld card or at least go to silver screenings Id say they were my parents age.
Trailers, Venom (yes) Flight Risk (probably) wicked (yes) & some weird little indi film called Gladiator II ( I am booked off work for opening day & i have IMAX tickets. I am buzzing).
& then the film started… I dont think i need to say it, but it fucking slapped on the big screen with that sound. Also here is my previous DVD Review.
Im a firm believer on going to the cinema for the size of the screen & that wall of sound (or silence in some cases) & im glad this lived up to it. I think the only way to watch this better would be to go to the albert hall & see it with a full orchestra. It would be incredible because that score is fucking iconic & so good & ahhh the goosebumps it gave me. & the way the visuals moved & was captured. Oh my oh my.
The Speech as always when he does the my name is… Stunning. When he finished you could hear us all take a collective breathe, cos we all bathed in that glorious moment.
I can spoil a film for once. When Phoenix died in the film someone stood up & said loudly “& that will teach you for putting us through Joker 2!” We all laughed, he was right.
Its still just fucking marvellous. & yes the CGI 20 years later looks a bit old, but dam the rest of it is so on point. Bloody love it & im now super hyped for part 2, is it November yet?
FYI I now know its tomorrow for me i just pre wrote this back when i got home from the cinema viewing of this & am now only upto the time line for posting the review.
