Advanced screening time. Woohoo. We missed a few recently due to important football that ended up lettign us down, so to do this & next monday is gonna be fun. Also the last of us is going to be mondays soon so i might miss a few there as well. But today its time for Death of a Unicorn, which to the UK is a preview, but to america, came out on friday.
Half full cinema is pretty good, guess a lot of people were like bet all the jokes are in the trailer. Id say mainly millennials. There is a lack of Gen Z with unlimited cards ive noticed that.
Trailers, penguin lesson (the next preview its booked) Some horror time turning thing (nope) Amateur, & then there were another 2 horror films but i cant remember what they were, sorry peoples. Also the best thing about an unlimited screening is there is no irritating unlimited advert.
& then the film started… funnier than i thought it was gonna be.
It is a slow build, there is no denying this, but once shit kicks off at the end of act 2, its hilarious. So so funny & then it just gets even funnier & the film knows it & it makes what you sat through before it so worth it. I actually felt the pain in my face from laughing & smiling which was good.
I love that no one in this film is safe. No one is really redeemable & they could all die & if im honest except for a doctors assistant they all in a way kind of deserve it. Want to know part of the reason why… uperty entitled people. Urgh. Hate em…
Will fucking Poulter… can we stop sleeping on him please. The man is such a brilliant actor & he is the reason i was laughing so hard. He was phenomenal. I dont get why people go urgh Will Poulter, maybe its the eyebrows but hes just brilliant & if your not on this ship… then boo to you. The film doesnt work without him.
Should we be worride about Gemma being so type cast at such a young age. I get she has a certain look & style, but shes always the moody slightly goth teen & she needs to break out of it already. I get shes owns it but shes going to run out of roles soon.
Should i also be worried that for the last couple of films ive seen him in as the male lead that Paul Rudd hasnt been funny or the funniest person in his film? Hes just not hittign his stride anymore. Its not working. Ive not even chuckled at him in a while.
If you dont love Richard E Grant being over the top every time hes on screen then are you even a british film fan…
Lets be honest, who doesnt love or want to have or touch a unicorn? They are so wonderful & i love that they basically cause the northern lights & change colours depending on their mental & emotional state, love it. That was a clever concept. I also do get the magic they do thats very very clever.
We did have a histroyr lesson on mythology & learnign from past mistakes (if the world could take note please) but it does drag on a little bit too long at points. Almost tryign to make the film feel very serious.
Every single death is full on. Some really gory. Some where they know its about to be the end, some a complete surprise. It does change it up a bit which is good.
If this film hasnt been as slow a burn through the first hour it would have been epic & i would have said one of the best comedies post pandemic for sure. IF your not smiling as you leave the cinema after watching this is feel sorry for you.
