This is going to be my last trip for over a week. I know wtf. Mini break up to liverpool is happening. I’ve actually timed it well as next week is the advanced preview ive seen & 2 horror films from franchises ive never seen so not a bad week to not go to the movies. So Caught Stealing, you have my attention tonight.
My wednesday night 8:10 screening wasnt as sold as i thought it would be. I had a row to myself. Every row has maybe 3 to 6 people in it (expect mine) but i was expecting many more. Did everyone go with the meercats yesterday instead. Also a much younger audience than usual. Lots of Gen Z for sure.
Trailers, the running man (yessssssssss) One Battle (yesssssssss) Wicked (yessssssss) The Roofman (yesssssssss) The long walk (yesssssssss) & Good Fortune (yesssssssss) It was a lot of trailers i mean its nice when they are all for good films but i arrived at 8:20 & there was still 5mins of adverts for me to sit through before the 15 mins of trailers.
& then the films started… oooooohhhhhh now that was good.
Now i’ve heard rumours that there is a film coming out soon where its horror film from the perspective of a dog & the people have been saying that there should be an award for best acting animal in a film.
1) ive been doing this for years with the swan from hot fuzz award
2) i get they are harder to get to do stuff than people
3) this cat deserves it
Im sorry if the dog thinks it does then so does this cat, some serious side eye, hissing, limping. I seriously more concerned about the cats fate then anyone elses in this film. & im not really an animal person. Like lando pup hes the best & any friends pets are priority but other than that they are cute & cuddly (yes i still want a pet penguin). Yea that cat owned it.
Would just like to say that not all brits speak like that, i can slip into it sometimes, we are close enough to that part of the country where it can occasionally slip out but still.
When Austin Butler wins an Oscar we all party right (unless its at Joseph Quinns expense in 2028/29 for being George Harrison). Hes just got it. Him & Timothee. Theres something in the water there. Like completely captivating. Another completely different performance so well done.
Twice in a week i saw a film that showed world trade centre 1 & 2, at the start of september. I didnt mean too, but i saw this & Die Hard With A Vengeance in the same week (now you will know how far behind i am with DVD reviews).
I love how in this film at no point can you trust anyone, other than Hank (Austin) & the cat. Everyone else is dodgy as fuck & its so so cool to watch how it unfolds it wasnt until right at the very end did i work something out. However that being said i kind of worked out what was going to save someone based on something that happened earlier in the film. Someones redemption was sweet & was so clever. There were actually people in my cinema going oooohhhhh of course & gasping before it happened realising it had all be building to this one moment. It paid off for sure. It was so well built.
So theres one point where he goes to Brighton Beach in New York… someone in my screening went, since when is that our beach & we all laughed. FYI we were watching it in brighton at the mania thats build next to the beach. New York get sand, we get pesky seagulls & pebbles.
I love the 90s vibe. It just felt so cool. Landline, remembering stuff, not being able to google shiz. Sometimes i miss that, but then again i do like the fact i can ask Siri to play a song for me & its happening 3 seconds later.
It never got lazy in its plot. As soon as you worked something out something twisted or someone died or the stakes changed. It was well written & deliver.
Seriously people if someones told you not to drink, dont drink…
I laughed at a few points as well. There was also one point that made me jump as i wasnt expecting something to happen which came completely out of the blue.
There are 2 mid credits people, one a few people in my screening hadnt recognised something & were like the fuck.
Bad Bunny is slowly getting better as an actor. Hes growing & working out what he needs to do to get noticed.
It was very sexy & very grim at points. It seriously never let you have a moment to rest. You were on the run with them in this film.
This film is also the perfect example as to how normal people have one thing that happens to them & then it fucks their life up & the world just doesnt give a shit about it, it really doesnt. You may not have put yourself in the hole but you got to get out & proves that for the normal person life is always a bit of a struggle.
This isnt a buzzer contender, but it was bloody brilliant. I couldnt keep my eyes off it in a good way. It one of those films you want to say to people have you seen this & then if they say yes you chat for like an hour or if they havent you go well go see it so then we can chat. Believe the hype… or just go to watch the cat.
