Friday night 6pm horror for me at the cinema, this should be interesting. This would have not been on my radar if i hadnt already seen a load of horror movies recently so im interested there this is going to go.
My screening had about 30 people in it which was pretty good. Clearly word has got out slightly about this. Mainly millennials if im honest.
Also cheers for only 5mins of adverts before the trailers cineworld… they were The Strangers, Some weird one with MacAvoy looked good though, Furiosa & i cant remember what the other one was sorry.
& then the film started… Mof Gideon needs to sort out his issue with magical kids.
Like seriously mate. & i get it was so people would go & watch the film, the guy is in 2 of the most popular tv shows around at the moment i understand that & they would have literally paid him for what 2 days filming the amount he was in it for, but him & kids with “speical abilities” need to sort themselves out for sure.
Dan Stevens we need to have a conversation about, the guy is stupidly underrated. He doesnt get enough kudos. He is a complete jerk in this film (i know most characters in this film are) but hes not usually playing those roles & he has the best character in the film. So please give him another big shot hollywood, he deserves a go at something major, he really really does. Do people forget he was the beast because he was all CGId.
The kid from Matilda, as Abigail, brilliant. So sweet & then so evil. I loved her. In about 10 years time she will be the lead in a major franchise & we will all be sitting there go on girl own it. Love her. She was perfect as the vampire child. So so good.
Lots of deaths in this film, most of them a bit funny, but there was one that was a bit grim which made me go ewwwwwwwww no thanks i dont like that. It wasnt nice to see, but was a good way to do it for sure. Im not sure if the other deaths were meant to be funny, but they were. Well me & the people 2 rows in front of me laughed.
It was clear quiet early on who we were meant to route for to get out of this & survive. But if im honest, even after the break down of who all the people were to start with in that room & then Abigail’s explanation later int he film, i didnt care about any of the people who were locked in that house to try &get out or survive. I mean they were all clearly bad people who wanted to kidnap a little girl in the first place. They all had it coming. It then was like but hang on these are technically the bad guys but we want them to get out but we also want them to suffer, please tell me exactly who i want to get out of this please.
I dont think we needed the final reveal, i mean a good cameo, but was it necessary? No not really. Would have proved that characters point if they hadnt showed up. We didnt need it.
It also feel into the generic kill people off vibe slowly one by one that we all expect from a horror film at points which was a bit of a shame. I get people had to die, but it just became to formulaic.
If i had £1 for every time someone fell into a pit of bodies that were dead in the last week id have £2, which isnt much but its interesting its happened twice. The one in the previous film was much more triggering than this one.
It was fun, but im not sure it was meant to be all the time. It did fall a little bit onto the accidental horror genre a little to well, but its always good for a vampire to get its teeth sunk into something for sure. Could watch a lot worse horror movies out there than this, but this was perfectly fine.
