Well i think this maybe the earliest ive ever had one of my top 5 films appear at the cinema for the most anticipated films of the year happen, but thats the way the cookie crumbles. Yep when this was announced i was like when we finally get that its going to be epic, so of course its the number 5 spot on my must watch list. Lets do this Timothee.
I love my cineworld, i do, but who still needs to go see Wicked, seriously. My Cineworld is putting films i want to see on at the most awkward times, that i cant get to or having long films start far too late. I will be so happy when the Odeon re opens & starts taking some traffic back (but not all of it i want my cinema to survive). That being said my 6:30 screening (see awkward time for a 2h20 film) was half full.
Trailers, the last show girl, Presence(always so funny when youve seen a film in advance) The Brutalist, Sacred Fig & Captain America ( i have a feeling that going to be before most movies now)
& then the film started… its too early to hit a golden buzzer isnt it. Thats a shame.
I dont know much of Dylans beginnings, i know the man the myth the legend & the music, but its only when you hear them all like this that you go oh fuck off mate, you wrote some classics. You really really did. I am not idea how accurate this part is, but the attitude felt spot on from what i did know. Like when it finished i was like was that it, i need to know so much more. 2hours 20mins flew by. Every second was captivating on the eyes & ears.
Timothee just made the oscars race much more complicated. Ive got 1 more lead actor to go now but im looking at the 4 ive seen & im not sure whos going to win. But Damn kid. Your fucking incredible. I think i say this every time is see him in a film. He just has this Aura. Hes always Timothee but he is also always whoever he is playing. Some of those mannerisms, damn. Also he sung & played it all. Fucking incredible. The man needs to be applauded & praised so much. Genuinely forgot i was watching that little kid at points he just changed into Bob Infront of our eyes. It was a pleasure to witness. I mean a man who learns the harmonica, thats dedication.
Edward Norton was good but i think out of the supporting actors ive seen so far he is the least deserving of his nomination. Id swap him out for Denzel or the Tucci in a heartbeat. He was just fine. He just seemed to be plodding along looking proud at Timothee, which lets be honest isnt hard acting is it.
I did spend a good portion of time watching the film going who the fuck is the manager, who is that actor. I know that voice. Hes always a side kick & it was only when his name popped up on the end credits i was like oh for fuck sake. It was Dan Fogler from fantastic beasts… (face palm). He was good, he knew what he wanted to do with them &was happy to let him grow. Also Boyd as Johnny Cash was very good, i didnt know it was Boyd until 2 days before seeing it & then was like ahhhhhh really.
Elle & Monica were okay, but they were more there to move the plot along. Dakota is the better actress of the two sisters. But Monica has a very nice singing voice, so i can why they put her opposite Timothee to balance out the music more.
I love films that have mirror images. The start & end of this doing it was very nice, i didnt expect it to happen at all, so much so that when he got back there i was genuinely like no dont end movie please please please stay.
I love how he collected the people in his life & how he met some of them. It was nice to see him going for the people who meant something be it someone famous or someone in a bar he liked. It was a good way to reward those who had been with him, yet still be unapologetically himself. I liked when he did actually turn up for that TV show & then always bothered about the other guy who was on the show with him. IT showed he was a global mega star but also knew to keep it real cos he was once the small guy desperate for someone to hear him.
Were Folk festivals really that big? I know festival are just in general, but there was a lot of people there every single time, it amazed me. & then it also amazed me that everyone got 3 songs & that was it. Imagine telling Taylor Swift or Beyonce you got 3 songs at out festival now, its madness. Also the lack of security at them all too. Crazy. Imagine that now.
Here it come…UPERTY PEOPLE!
Urgh, there were so many arrogant rude people in this film (including Bob at points) that jsut pissed me off, but Bob was right to be rude if they arent letting him be creative. Especially in that party scene, that was really uncomfortable to watch, but we all know that kind of stuff goes on. He was invited & then had to be nice to everyone then play & then was like okay bye then while they all talked about him. Selfish pricks. I know i know, but still makes it wrong. Bob earnt his right to be arrogant, & put some of them in their place.
Joint tours, is that really an american thing? Like that doesnt happen over here. Well not that ive seen. We sometimes have a decent support artist at stadium tour but nothing much else than 45mins. It seems weird. I know that still happens today, its just odd. What if you go see one artist & dont like the other. Its just weird.
I often sit here & say the music & score of a film is as important as the image on the screen & with this it really was. Showing them making music & feeling it build, having the score feature bits of the songs & then to feed that into you emotionally. It was wonderfully done & a lot of that we need to thank Bob for making such outstanding songs that have lasted the test of time.
This may not be one of the earliest times ive said lets have film as a buzzer contender, but its up there. This is sublime. Its exciting & its a brilliant traditional music biopic film. It nails it & if this isnt in my top 10 films at the end of the year weve had a phenomenal year of cinema.
I was right to put this so high up my hit list.
