No Spoilers, i lived through this as it happened (although that being said there are now grown adults who were born after this, but they should know about this, if they dont then whattttt).

I think i start off with this every time i talk about a film linked to 9/11, but we all remember where we where & what we were doing that day, when that happened. It was scary & still effects our lives today, but it could have been a lot worse (& thats really saying something) if it wasnt for the brave & courageous people on United 93, who all knew they were going to die so tried to regain the aircraft & caused it to crash away from its intended target of the capitol, saving many more lives in the process.

We have all recently with whats going on in the world, had similar conversations, about what you would do & if youd stay behind to help & volunteer & do what ever you could to keep your family & country safe (theres an episode of goggle box from week 2 of the conflict where the two people around my age have that conversation & its heart-breaking). So to hear the conversations of the people on the plane, speaking to their families on the plane phones & mobiles telling them that they love them & to pass messages onto other. Its heart-breaking them watching them say their goodbyes & knowing its all going to probably end very badly. Its lovely & then you remember these were actual real people who did this & you go oh god. You are too engrossed in this as a film that it then suddenly hits home that these were real people with real families.

I love how they didnt cast anyone big at the time to be people in this film. It makes it more believable. Imagine if it was a big Hollywood actor in any part, be it on the plane or on the ground being in this. It would just distract from those involved & take the spotlight away.

I like how we watch the mundaneness of getting on the plane, waiting for a take off spot, & people going through there pre-plane rituals. Often films dont do this but to these people , they were all on there way on a plan like any normal journey they would take. Tired due to the early flight or asking for extra bits for there food later. All the normal plane drama that happens on every flight, it all just seems all the more heart-breaking that it was so normal.

I love that for about 1h10mins of the film its actually about ground control & how they were looking at the planes & that they didnt think it was real first, & then shit goes down & they realise they have to ground stuff & send up some jets to protect the sky. I liked that & how they just went from a calm day with a small amount of bad weather to wondering why a fighter jets were 100miles off where they should have been.

All the while that flight is waiting to take off, i did sit here & think just dont take off just get delayed, come on dont get clearance. & you know i know the outcome i watched everything unfold on tv & go shittttttttttt as a 11 year old, but there was still a small part of me hoping they would get delayed & live through it.

Theres a lot of dialogue in this film & a lot of background noise going on to get right, but it just does. So much of it especially on the ground is so technical to but you just go with it. I felt like i could run an air control room after watching this, i felt like i had been that well informed too.

The real time scale of it too, was very good. That plane was in the air for the correct amount of time before it crashed & all those events happened in that short space of time. Its crazy but its true.

The rumours about the towers too & what hit them on the ground & in the plane start of as nah & then holly crap it did. Its still scary now 21 years later watching those planes hit those building. Its a memory that will always be in my head, especially the second plane as i was home from school when that hit & i saw it happen on BBC news. That really freaked me out.

Paul Greengrass earns his directing money defiantly in this, especially with the plane showdown to try & take back control. The editing & the sound & the noise & the panic & the way people are being thrown about in the back of the plane & how those at the front are just doing all they can to get them off the wheel & get the one guy who had flown a small plane in that seat who said him flying it was a better chance than they did with anything else, but wasnt that good a chance. Its chaos, but it would have been & thats why it works. You are desperate for them to get hold of it just for a small glimpse of hope.

I also love how as it approaches the ground it just moves to words it before fading out to just a black screen & then the memorial & honouring everyone who died on 911. That was a nice way to do it. We dont need to see the crash, we all know it crashed, we dont need to see that & bring more pain & heartbreak for the families.

Im happy i have finally seen this in full (id seen the end before). but im also sad that ive seen it. Those people were so brave & courageous & it was heart-breaking to watch knowing that as much as they save all those lives at the capitol, they all still died, but at least they got to say goodbye. Dont watch after having half a bottle of wine, like i did tonight, youll feel even more emotional that you should do.

its hard to say a real life tragedy is a must watch, but it is.
