Spoilers
God left this a bit late with it being the night before that i see Glass is when i watch Unbreakable but meh i got there. So lets do this shall we.
Basically David Dunn (Bruce Willis) is the only survivor of a horrific train crash. He then is met by Elijah (Samuel L Jackson)who is obsessed with comics & super heroes who believes that David has super powers & is unable to be hurt or suffer pain. David starts to think about this, but after a couple of flash backs & a few incidents with his son, he starts to think he may have this. He then after speaking to Elijah who has just fallen down the stairs at the subway breaking all of his bones as he has a brittle bone disease, decides to prove himself, & saves some people using his new skills & powers, confirming to his son that he is a superhero. Upon speaking to Elijah thanking him for his awakening he touches his hands & realises that Elijah is responsible for lots of huge incidents, to try & find a lone survivor who can be a hero to his villain. David cuts all ties with him & reports him to the police.
Why have i never seen this film before seriously. It was stunning. It took a while to get going but oh man when it got going it went for it.
I like the fact that they weren’t afraid to show the guy dying on the operation table or all the other familys waiting at the hospital falling apart, who knew noone was coming out to see them.
I love that the director was the drug dealer at the ground that was epic, love it when directors have cameos like that, makes it even more personal & real.
Samuel L Jackson has a big rant at one point about super heros & comics selling out & begin to out there & over the top. That at the time is quite clever & interesting, but considering that man ended up as Nick Fury in the MCU its actually bloody hilarious.
They shouldnt have bottled it & had his son shoot him, to show the danger of gun crime & deaths & pain related to it as a proper lesson to america, to prove a point about it.
Of course hes scared of water, i would be too if i nearly drowned when i was a child. Of course hes petrified of it.
Filming between those seats on the train was brilliant.
why did none of the people who watch cctv check that he Elijah was near all these places where things horrific happened. Seriously how bad were they. I know i now live in a post 9/11 world, but this was one year before, were we really so naive before it all happened.
Lots of starring for a long amount of time,& dramatic pausing which didnt really actually add anything to it. Less staring a bit more showing off & explaining please.
I do like the fact that we dont really see his powers til the end of the film. For the time that must of been oh wow (these days its more accepted to wait for the big reveal), but i think we should have seen maybe one more example of it as well, to make him more of a legend.
It was really well shot & a really enjoyable film & has dated very well. Bring on Glass on friday. I cant wait
