Spoilers
thats another Twilight film done 2 down 3 to go, so i think i need some Mendelsohn in my life, its been a while since ive had some & Una has just been added to all4 so i am really looking forward to this to see what happens in it & why its succah controversial film & people go oh god at it.
So im now done with the film & oh my god thats a hard but amazing watch. You do just sit there going no no no no thats wrong thats horrible & you seethe lies & the deceit & the ruins it puts people through & you dont want to watch it anymore, but you have to because you want ot know why & you want to see how much twisted its going to get & be horrific.
Child abuse & Sexual exploitation are never comfortable subjects to discus ever, but to put it in a film & for the actors to just be so with it that you sit there & by the end of it think that it did actually happen & you feel bad that youve watched a film about this does make you feel really uncomfortable. & thats how good everyone is in it, that you sit there & go no no no but its get the message about those relationships across so perfectly that it really does sum it up.
When shes in the court via satellite & they ask her to say her name for the record & she says Ray i love you (shes 13 at this stage by the way) really did actually make me feel sick. She did love him still after all of that, & he felt guilty & you just here the court murmur disapprovingly confirming that hes going to be guilty & that he did do it. Thats the worst bit of the film to watch it really is & it makes you feel sick. Not for the film but for the fact that there are people in the worlds little kid who have been through this in real life & you just dont want to imagine it.
You see nothing actually happen between them when she is still a child, some holding hands & the words i love you being said & maybe a few long walks but you dont see anything more than that. I think the not seeing means that when it pauses before a point where you then know something happens next or happened just before makes you feel bad like you are in on the secret of this relationship.
Everyone in this film acts there socks off. Ben, Rooney, Riz all amazing. & little Ruby who plays young Una has a lot to deal with & is so mature in her performance that its amazing. It really is so cleverly worked & so good.
When she throws up before she get to the factory to meet him for the first time in years after tracking him down, you feel that sinking feeling with her. Here before her will be the man who ruined her life & made her be judged by everyone & he after serving his time which was brutal then gets to reinvent himself with a new identity & get away with it all, yeah id feel like crap too.
Why did they make a middle man fire everyone from the company, & not actually do it as the big boss & then be angry at him when he cant do it as hes distracted by her & his job & what hes got to do. That is not a company id want to work for at all, they can fuck off those corporate wankers.
Its really interesting that after all of there chats about life & how it is from each others points of view & the guilt & regret, that they are still attracted to each other. After all of that & all those years of pain they were both willing to do it all, all over again but with Una now as an adult, but they stop. I found that really interesting & i wonder if thats the case with other people in those circumstances too.
Hows she going to get her car back she left it at Riz’s & then they went to the party in his car & then she leaves without heres obviously quite away away from where she lives. Thats going to be awkward in the morning to go get your car back.
The fact hat everything just spirals out of control at that party is mad & everyone knows something odd is going on but as all the lies & truth come out you just sit there going oh this is so awkward get me out of this party right now. & with everyone watching & kind of judging too it just feels wrong, especially when she goes into the step daughters room. i just sat here screaming no no no dont do that.
Its not a pleasant watch but the way its filmed & acted makes it such compelling i have to see this viewing & everyone should be very proud of the film they have made. The fact it makes you feel so uncomfortable means it deals with its subject matter very well & carefully. An extraordinary film, which wont be for you all but if you do feel up to it, you will apricate it (cant really say enjoy it).
