Going to be gutted when my parents take prime away from me, but its not happened yet, so i keep going through my watch list to see whats left on there. & low & behold, 2017s The Wall is on there. A film ive always been intrigued by, so this feels like the perfect saturday night intense negotiation action film for me. Im hoping this delivers & is something very cool & clever.

How much was John Cena paid to basically lie down in the desert for an hour & get shot at every now & then? I want to know. Because he was a bit sarcastic at the start but after that & a bit of walking around & trying to get a gun to ATJ, he did nothing else. & i remember when this was advertised in the cinema, that it was made out to believe the Cena was the lead. I mean i think AJT is the better actor anyhow, dont get me wrong, but thats false advertising for other people. I mean i get it AJT might not get bums in seats, Cena does but if i was a Cena fan thats false advertising.

I love how we never ever see the shooter trying to kill them whos laid this trap for them. & i love the menacing way & friendly way he speaks to them. At points it is almost comforting to him a little respite from the horror going on. But ultimately it is to have him make a mistake so he can take him out. When its menacing its dark & horrible & you do feel the panicked struggle of trying to take him out & get to safety away from this trap & kill box.

AJT considering its all on him & he was still just the Kid from Kickass at this point (he should be known for more than that) does a bloody good job with the cliched role & script about how he lost his partner on a previous tour & is addicted to war & kind of would like to die in the desert a little bit due to his guilt. Oh its so cliché it hurts, but its got to be delivered in a way that you do care for him & hope he makes it out.

The story about the actual wall, being a school war & innocents suffering & lives being cost by those who are in power or take orders, that was deep. I was trying to work out if it was the guys house or a hospital that had been bombed, school was the 4th option on my list when he was talking about it so i almost was there. Which is sad & does really make you think it really does.

Did the budget go on the sand storm & his leg bleeding & the falling apart skittles packet, or was it all John Cena? Because that sand storm that the kept saying was on its way i was waiting for it to be epic, but no. It was like they had 5 wind blowers to move it about, i was a little bit disappointed if im honest.

When the wall collapses for him to try & get the final shot to take him down, i was like noooooo. & then i kind of knew it was to easy for the army to come & pick him up. Its a 2017 film, no way were they getting out. It just proved the the system was broken & started the trapped cycle again, which is the point. But id have much preferred for him to get shot by the sniper & then for the back up to arrive & them be ambushed & they be involved in the next lot of negotiations & trap with the sniper, than at AJT to scream no no no as the helicopter gets taken out.

It wasnt the best written script in the world, i think i could produce that for a film like this, its not that hard. But AJT does go for it & does put his soul & all the pain into his lines. He is good.

94min run time was fine. I was at one point sitting there going now much longer do we have, we are drawing this out & then something happened to start act 3 & i was like oh thank god for that.

It was an okay film. It was perfect for what i needed on a saturday night, it really was, not to over the top, bit of drama & trauma but ultimately a cliché war lone survivor vs 1 person vibe. It does its job okay & thats all there is to it.
