Spoilers?

Well probably not, however this was the first time i had watched this in full. I remember we saw up to the start of the heist in school one year but ive never seen it all the way through so here i am. Its on sky cinema on my now tv package before i lose it due to the black friday deal. This maybe a short review but for a main reason which we will get to.

I love how this sticks to its guns this film & a basic plot. Act 1 introductions. Act 2 Exposition & random chats & slight oh god. Act 3 the heist & get away. To the point, gets it done & goes for it. There is nothing wrong with that especially for this era of film. Its gets the whole thing done in 90mins & delivers. Simple story with odd moments of light relief, but its no nonsense, much like the guys carrying the heist out.

The comedy is dated (other than blowing the bloody doors off {iconic}) but being british & of its time its gets away with it the same way retro bond films do. Because it became so well loved & such a time capsule for its era you go just forgive it.

Everyone is really good in this, obviously Caine Coward & Hill (which always makes me laugh a little) are stand outs, but no one put in a bad show at all. It just works. When they argue it feels real, when they are worried others look concerned too. Everyone just gets there part right & at no point is anyone not believable.

It is however all about Act 3. Yes meeting everyone is funny, breaking back into prison is good & the plan & the people trying to scupper them is clever. But it is All about the heist & those three little minis going everywhere being chased. Theres hardly any score. Its just a brilliant chase which lasts for about 15 to 20 mins (should have timed it damn it, i was to busy enjoying it to not) & you just keep thinking what can they drive through & over next. Using the football as cover as well. Every twist & turn is going crazy & leaves you out of breath & on a high. For it time its state of the art & no wonder. Its still one of the coolest bits of driving in cinema to this day. I dont make the rules thats the truth.

& then leaving the film on an actual Cliff-hanger is perfect. I love it. Seriously what a way to troll the audience. So clever so cool & just to have the balls to do that then…Epic. If it had been now people would have moaned about it alot. Its brilliant.

It just such a cool little stylish 90mins of movie. Laughs & darkness when it has to be but it is all about Act 3 it really is. Its sublime & is one of the coolest things in the history of cinema. Im so glad ive finally seen it all the way thought & with context
