I will try not to spoil this & do this like cinema club so youve all got a chance as it only came out what 4 weeks ago so im going to give you all a chance.
So its time to see what the coolest & most in group of actors can actually all do in a film together. A heist film on a huge budget scale which looks amazing lets hope it comes up with the goods.
Okay theres one thing i really dont like about films, ones that bottle or dont know how to do an ending. The last few minutes of a film can change your opinion on a film, from making it be epic, go meh, it being okayish or it being crap. Unfortunately this film didnt know how to end & set itself up for a sequel that it hopes its star power will give to it. I mean it will & up to a certain point it was going so well, but yeah it needed a final epic showdown that we never get & just walked off hoping it would get another film. I wanted it to be more epic & crazy like the rest of the film before it.
So did anyone else work out the twist well before the twist (probably saying there is a twist is spoiler-ish so sorry). I did like from the second time something was said so when the reveal happens, i was like yep of course. However when i talked to my sister after she saw it she was like oh god didnt see it coming & then the rewind explaining she was like i cant believe i missed what was hiding in plain sight. So maybe thats my easter egg mind hunting for it.
Talking of easter eggs, when Ryan Reynolds hums the Indiana Jones theme tune, that made me giggle & then his line afterwards, i spat my drink out, paused the film rewound it, checked & then paused & laughed for about 5 minutes. Ryan Reynolds at one point says when he is asked what they are looking for & a quote “probably a large box marked McGuffin” I lost my shit. I seriously lost my shit. & so did my sister when she saw it & apparently her husband at the end of the film went why did you lose it with about 20mins to go & she had to explain a McGuffin to him. See were getting into peoples minds peoples. Seriously i mean thats got to be my favourite line of 2021, i mean there is one in Free Guy thats better than that, but it will ruin the wtf moment of the film.
Ryan & Rock do bounce of each other they really do, but its mainly all Ryans doing. I mean the non bromance works & you can imagine them wanting to not be a team but having to tolerate each other, so it does work bloody well. Ryan does need his break from acting tho. After doing 5 films now in a short space of time where hes an exaggerated version of himself he needs to just take the 9 months off & then come back & knock it out the park & we will all go oh we missed him.
There isnt a much better sight in an action film then the rock hitting the rock bottom on someone, & he does it a couple of times in this film. It still is bloody brilliant all these years later, hes still got it & is a legend. Not so many eyebrows this time.
Gal Gadot, is the weakest of the three if im honest. Okay we are following the other 2 more, so shes just pops up when a conflict needs to happen, but she still kicks arse. It is like a wonder woman greatest hits if im honest, just not in gold but red.
The running of the bulls was a bit much, we could have done without that.
There were a few bits which were very predictable, theres a point where a certain thing was put in one place & i was like ahhh i know why thats happening. It just felt like it was showing the obvious at times for some bits so that we knew when stuff happened later, that this was why we lingered on this for longer than we needed to 5minutes earlier as we needed to know it was important. Mainly the prison break, & that helicopter
Im Ed Fucking Sheeran…. i mean thats the most 2021 thing ever….
There were some clever jokes which did get me laughing. I smiled & lot & sniggered throughout the film.
I will re watch this & give it a full review at some point. I did enjoy it, but to work so much out on a first viewing, was i just over looking to start with or was it really all that obvious. Its easy watching. This is the perfect action film to put on when you really dont want to concentrate at all once youve seen it before. Thats what its going to become. I did enjoy it, i just wanted more from it, which with those names & that budget & the hype, we could have got.
