Spoilers… maybe

This awards season is weird, so much of it i had already seen before we actually hit the usual flurry, so i am looking forward to this one. Cooper back behind the screen & also in front of it. Lets see how good this one is Bradley, i have high hopes for it.

This maybe a normal sofa viewer review as its a real life story, but it may also go cinema club style as its still newish.

Okay maybe not knowing much about Leonard Bernstien was either a really good idea or not before this film. Mainly because i learnt a lot about him, but also not as much as the film trailers & press for the film thought i would believe. He was gay, he then got lucky, he then got married, he then took drugs & then it all went weird. Is that about right?

Bradley was good in acting & directing but nothing too outstanding other than that main scene where he is doing that over the top conducting which is so so good. I wish i had seen that in the cinema for the sound. Im not sure he deserves the oscars buzz but the academy do love people that make films about their own so i can see why this is the case.

Carey Mulligan is so so so good in this. Id say it was more her film than his. She is so fantastic & its a pleasure to watch her in this. She needs more recognition just in general not just in this role.

What was it with this year splitting your film between black & white & then switch it up to colour. This one did work as it had him in black & white until he found himself & then when he became the man the world knew he turned into colour, but this was everyones favourite thing to do & they all did it this year. It just got lazy by the time we got to the oscars.

Im re watching Ugly betty at the moment so when Marc turned up i was liek yes. Also a lack of him & Matt Bomer to. I get that this was the start of his career but still. Matt did pop up again later on but it always just felt like a little after thought. He keeps having all the affairs & dalliances with other men, but never goes back to his true love.

The argument is the best acting scene in the film. Its incredible & the film is worth watching for that & that huge conducting part. Also just sitting in the bottom of the pool so so cool.

At the end the film switches to not being about him but about his wife & family which up to that . I mean i know that defines him in his later life, but after it all being for show to then suddenly be like oooh there were other people he should have cared for more should have been a bit more prominent before that.

Also we only visit the interview part of it twice through the film. I thought we would get alot more of it than that.

This film did cause controversy because of the prosthetics used. I get that they wanted them to look right, but it was a bit much & maybe they could have cast someone else instead. It was a little much.

I think due to the films subject for a biopic & who stars & directs in it its getting the acclaim, but it was nothing exceptional. Ive seen better films that have missed out on all sort of nomination this year compared to this one. It is good & im glad ive seen it, but award season worthy… nah.

This needed a cinema sound to make it better than it was.
